caramelsilver gave me: A semi successful band on tour and all the shit and wonder they encounter.

They used to be just an after-school high school band, but stuck together all through college and are about to go on their first nationwide tour.

Presenting... Bowman's Capsule!

Lou Scranton, bass guitar, always wanted a band of his own, so he’s been on the lookout for fresh imagination and new talent. He sometimes sinks into dark moods which only Scott can pull him out of. He doesn’t know that everyone knows how fond he is of animals.

(Played by Christopher Eccleston)

The perpetual outcast at his homogenous Minnesota school, Scott Ramanajah was shy and withdrawn until he met Lou, who didn’t care what he looked like as long as he was willing to take his incredible chords into the group. He’s happiest when he’s playing his keyboard and was surprised to find that he has more fans that Lou - it’s because he’s sweet and exotic.

(Played by Sendhil Ramamurthy)

No one’s really sure where Olivia came from, but one thing’s for sure: Miss Pennyfeather does not sing; she vocalizes. Her haunting melodies bring the whole group together, but she’s the first to admit that every single one of them is essential. Everyone has a little bit of a crush on her and she gives them all a smile they think is just for them.

(Played by Catherine Zeta-Jones)

Annie Thornblat went into a punk phase in her junior year of high school and never looked back. Of percussion she says, “Well it’s just this rhythm that’s always in your head, you know? Either you’ve got it or you don’t.” Scott calls her his “cowbell girl” and she doesn’t mind the nickname as much as she pretends to.

(Played by Pauley Perrette)

While his older sister was practicing with her garage band, Johnny Thornblat was becoming a violin aficionado. Annie did not want him in the band, but Scott remembered what it was like to be ostracized and convinced Lou to at least give him a chance and it’s a good thing he did because this kid is amazing. Of course, he’s hardly a little kid anymore and he’s starting to notice Olivia.

(Played by Chris Pine)

Shit and Wonder

The pilot episode opens with the members of Bowman’s Capsule getting run out of town. Turns out that the citizens of Glen Ridge were expecting Country and Western music, and were not happy with the alternative stuff they got. Johnny tried to save the day with his mean fiddling skills, but Olivia and Annie just couldn’t bring themselves to stoop to that level of performance. Because the first episode establishes the characters, it is presented mostly in flashback form to when they were just a garage band. This technique is repeated throughout the series.

And then there was the time Scott left his keyboard behind. Lou flew into a rage and was about to hit him when Scott just smiled that ridiculously hot grin at him. He dropped his fist, amazed at what he had been about to do, and apologized. He got the driver to turn the bus around and kept saying that he had no idea what had gotten into him. Scott said not to worry about it; they were all stressed and it had been a hard run.

It’s not all lousy though. There are times that make them smile and enjoy one another’s company. One of the best wonders was a nine-year-old girl named Emily. Emily saw the notice in the newspaper that they were coming to perform in the nearby Iowa City. She really wanted to see a band perform live in concert so she rode her bike five miles up there. Scott and Annie both pressured Lou to let her play in the band for at least that night, and she was awesome. She didn’t become a regular, though many fans wanted her to.
