Oh it's early. I mean I know it's 10 o'clock now, but I've been up for THREE HOURS. There's actually no light at 7:30, did you know that? No light AT ALL. I swear it was darker then than when we went to bed. My mum told me I 'just need a new mindset' to be getting up at this hour. I actually '
whatevah'ed her. Fortunately she laughed.
1. Took Cedric to the vet this morning. Just for his annual check up whatnot. He seems to have a bit of a sixth sense about these things, as the minute we ordered the cab he ran off to visit Greebo. We got him back ok though, and he was generally fine in his wee cat bag except for in the waiting room - I suspect he can detect a massive number of fear pheromones from various animals, so rightly panics.
The vet was lovely as ever (
Braid Vets really are very nice) but told us that Cedric is too fat. We have to put him on a very strict diet. This includes feeding him, then taking away the food after a certain amount of time. Oh, he will meowl and howl, but we will be strong.
2. Oh I can type normally again now as up until a minute ago Ari was asleep on me but she has now, inexplicably, gone to make spaghetti. She's cute.
3. Big change from this week. I've been offered work with a temp agency 2 1/2 days a week for 5 weeks - so up until 11 February. The job itself is fairly basic, but it is money. The slight problem is that I was supposed to start two days a week with
Hearts & Minds as well as my one day a week with
Magnetic North. I also have do find time to:
So, the next few weeks are going to be sticky. I'm going to work a six day week, doing Magnetic North work on a Saturday, and checking in with them on a Monday and Tuesday, when I'm going into Hearts & Minds - fortunately it's in the same building. I'll have to work evenings and Wednesday mornings for all the other stuff (Wed afternoons and Thurs/Fri is the temp job, out in Dalkeith). It'll be fine. I can do this for a month. I'm going to try and keep Sunday sacred at least to some extent - mostly to a sleeping extent. Mmm
sleeping.
Things I must make sure I still do:
- Long term thinking and strategising
- Happy Mondays
- Eating
- Fresh air and exercise
I have done all these thing today. Well aren't I a purebreed specimen of marvellousness? What could possibly go wrong?
Things on hold until 14 February
- Seeing my friends (sorry, folks. Here if you need me but otherwise am sticking my head down and powering through. One exception is in place for if Siân does anything for her birthday but she might not, or she might not invite me if she does which is like, totally her call.)
- Ironing, except as strictly necessary (this one distresses me)
- Getting distracted by shiny things
This may all seem very down and negative, but au contraire, mon frere. I'll be hella busy but guess what - this month, I'll earn some money! Maybe even more money than I spend - at least enough to cover bills. Soon I, and not Cedric, will be the fat cat!
This is Very Good News - after paying the vet bill this morning, we both officially have No Money Left in The Bank. We will be living on my credit card, which I've had to order the PIN to. Will have to scrape together enought cash to pay for the bus to Dalkeith. This may be tricky. But we can do it. We are indomitable!
Also, it's nice to be busy. I LIKE being busy. Hopefully, this marks the end of a period of struggle, and after this Month of Crazy, there will be continued work, if of a calmer variety. It's a shame, as Ariadne and I had just got into a lovely rhythm, working-from-home wise, and it was nice. But this will appease my bank manager, which is also nice.
4. Behind on the times, we just got
Spotify. It's very good. I'm not sure why people would still buy music if you can just listen to it on there. But I don't pretend to understand all of the complexities behind music copyright.
5. Cedric has spent a lot of the week covered in some kind of ming. I think there's something he keeps brushing up against, and can't lick it off, so we have to comb it out. Not happening as much now though.
6. Ariadne's parents seem dead happy in New Zealand. I'm so pleased. Everything seems to have come together all round.
7. In my stop-staring-at-the-screen moments, I have been very much enjoying my
Samurai Sudoku book I found on a shelf.
8. We were supposed to have someone come and stay in the spare room for a week from the 4th, but she never showed up. Whattabitch. Think will not copy with people staying during Crazy Month though (John will be here for a couple of days when he gets back, but John ain't People.)
9. Damn, I forgot about my tea!
Ok, work beckons. Happy Monday y'all!
