How can it be that this year again I find myself in the position of not having bought any a single Christmas present and it´s only two weeks left until Christmas! Arghhh! Could it be that this is my Christmas tradition, along with stress and heartburn..
Speaking of traditions, me and my hubbie haven´t so many Christmas ones. But ever since we decided not to spend Christmas apart with our separate familys, this was before we moved in together, but go first to have Christmas lunch with my family and then have dinner with his, we have felt the need to prepare ourselves for a whole day of hanging out with our lovely relatives. Not that I´m implying that it´s anything like the great Bergman movie “Fanny and Alexander”, but anyways..
The preparations take place the evening before Christmas Eve, since in Sweden that´s when we celebrate, not on Christmas day. So tha day before we bake a ham in the oven, I make Christmas candy, my love bakes a English fruitcake for my gran ( the fruit is soaked in liquor), and then I franticly wrap all the presents. And after that we sit down in front of the TV with a whiskey and a hamsandwich, the show´s about to begin..
First we watch “Life of Brian”, then “Bad Santa”, and finaly the most needed one, a Swedish film called “Santa´s the father of all the children”. It´s about a woman who want´s all her exhusbands and their new wifes and children to spend Christmas together for the childrens sake, and some of her exes are married to someone elses ex and so on.. Secrets unfold, there´s yelling, crying, making out, disaster and bliss. And when we´re done watching it we always say to eachother “at least it won´t be that bad tomorrow” ;)
