Character meme requests

Edwin from
thebucketwoman

a. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her.
What didn't? would be a better question. If I were thirteen and male and Canadian and had a big family, I'd be him. Always looking for a fast way to make money, glued to the computer, just full on a...a quirky wierd kid. So he's SO easy to identify with. He just...makes sense to me.

b. One of his/her best traits

Edwin is brilliant and snarky. That combination provides for some excellent wit. Things he says that aren't even funny make me laugh because he just has a way of saying things without actually saying them. I am positive he's onto Derek and Casey because of the way he says things to each of them. Especially that scene in Crushing The Coach in Derek's bedroom. Or the one where he outs Casey's singing skills in Battle of the Bands. You know he knows something is up. He's just bright.

c. One of his/her worst traits

Edwin is too down on himself. He also is convinced he will never live up to Derek. This leads to the occasional bratty moment which he is too old for.

d. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character

Edwin is totally easy to write. he's really the ONLY character that I can write that easily. Lizzie sometimes but Ed? ALWAYS. I guess it's because I identify with him so much.

e. The story/thread/chapter/post/paragraph/tag/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character

Hands down, it's The Prom Fiasco, the first chapter of Tales From Edwin's Book of Snark. I plan to do more with that, a series of oneshots, but that's all there is of it right now. I wish I could say A Wedding Story but it's so hard to tell with post-college fics.

f. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future.

I have every intention. Probably twice a week I think of something I should write for Edwin. He just begs to be written and (unlike Derek) I can't tell him no. I haven't written a lot lately but there are plot bunnies out the wazoo on my computer.

a. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her.
Wow. Well, I don't see myself in Lizzie the way I do in Edwin. I do try to be environmental like her, and I definitely care about my causes, so there's that. But she's part of the ship. if you write one, you gotta write them both! She's way more levelheaded than me though, but that's nice because as much of a family rock as I said Edwin was in my earlier post, he's not so much a levelheaded guy. So Lizzie balances that nicely. She's the salt to his pepper, so to speak.

b. One of his/her best traits
Well, her levelheadedness. I keep saying this harping on it, but it's my favorite thing about her. Everytime I write something crazy for someone (especially Edwin or Casey), she comes in and says "whoa, scale back, take a breath, and think about this." Without her the house just might fall apart.

c. One of his/her worst traits
She's not bold enough. She should stand up to Casey a lot more often than she does. It's a shame what she lets Casey get away with doing to her.

d. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character
Lizzie is...temperamental. Some days she's easy to write, but more often than not she is a challenge. She doesn't think I write her in character and more often than not she makes me delete lots of things I write her because they just aren't right. But I can't just quit writing her because she's too important.

e. The story/thread/chapter/post/paragraph/tag/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character
Well I liked her not-a-typical-bride bit in A Wedding Story. And as much as I put that part of her character as one of her worst traits, I think I got her well when she was checking up on Casey and Derek during her honeymoon (not that they don't require constant attention to keep from acting a fool). but I truly love her speech to Mrs. Pummelman in The Prom Fiasco.

f. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future
Well, I already told you about my Edwin plans. And you can't write Edwin without writing Lizzie. She's like the Joanie to his Chachi, you know?

I'm still accepting requests, so you can ask for other characters!
