You know you wanna adopt...

In addition to squeeing over the_new_perfect's Available Pup post, I have received TWO come-ons for kittens-needing-homes today... one from a coworker, who has two no-longer-feral grey boy kittens up for grabs, and another from a journalist I've worked with before, who sent the following shameless appeal to my senses:

As some of you may know Emma and I have been taking care of a litter of 6 kittens and trying to find them homes. We have found WONDERFUL homes for 4 of the kittens so far, but still have 2 babies with no place to go. They are both SWEET, LOVING, PLAYFUL kittens just waiting for someone to give them the home and love they so badly need and deserve. They were born on July 28th, they are good eaters and they are litter box trained. The striped kitty is a male, we have been calling him "Dude" because he is such a cool cat. He loves people and food and enjoys his naps. He has a huge heart and could make someone a very loving companion. The fluffy black one with the orange markings around her eye is a female. She is the smallest out of all the brothers and sisters (so she will probably be a small cat), but she loves to eat and play. We have been calling her "Reeses" and she is a little more shy than her brother. Her fur is a little longer than your typical short hair cat and VERY soft.

I have included some pictures of the 2 little guys. If any of you have room in your hearts for either or both of these loving lil kittens please get in touch with me. If you are not able to adopt right now but you know anyone who may provide a loving and stable home for the kittens feel free to forward this e-mail to them.

WAAAHHHHH! *makes grabby hands at the tortie in particular*

You know how some people talk about experiencing "baby lust" when they see infants? I totally have kitten lust instead. Laurie, too. But every time we experience kitten lust, we come back to the same conclusion: our cat is not other-cat-friendly, and we're both away too often to be a good home for kittens. (In fact, we're planning a week-long trip around Thanksgiving, and though we'll arrange for cat care in our absence, it would be a lot harder if we had new catlets running about the place who may or may not be as content as she is when left alone.)

But I'm putting the word out, because JM's a good guy and I'm sure his kittens are just as fabulous as they look in the photos. I would collect torties if I could, but then I'd be That Woman.

Gah, it breaks my heart. There are so many animals that need homes. And then we breed MORE of them - why, exactly? Super-big props and a sloppy kiss to everyone who has adopted an unwanted/abandoned/rescued/shelter pet. They're the best!

Also, any fellow feline fans know what our cat might be... um... nuts? She gets this spaced-out, faraway look on her face and snaps at what we've started to refer to as "spectral fleas." There's absolutely nothing there, but still she snaps and just gets generally twitchy. We've seen her do this on occasion before, but lately, she's doing it rather a lot. We're concerned that this goes a few steps beyond your usual tortie quirk, so I thought I'd ask...

kitty porn, kittens!
