Wow, where the hell do I start...
Today:
-The fish died, but not before flailing around upside down with its gills heaving, thoroughly freaking out all of the kids even after I moved it out of the room. After school he was buried at sea. Maybe I can get a new one by next week.
-One boy had a spell checker (one of the electronic ones.) His friend showed it to me, and the list function was full of dirty words. (Honestly, I try to pick my battles, and I don't think that bad words are a big deal. But, they are a big deal to the school, so I turned him in to the principal.)
-Several kids tried to see how many Altoids they could hold in their mouths at once. (20!?) Their eyes were watering and they kept stcking their tongues out to show everyone.
-I finally had a good conversation with one kid who was making me crazy- he tattles on any kid that breaks a rule, even a stupid rule, like he's the class policeman. But when he does something wrong he'll never own up to it. I finally got he to see how damned ironic this is, and he laughed. Works for me.
-The boy who was going to be expelled but wasn't because his father wouldn't bother to show up for a conferece was absent. Apparently he's on vacation. Honestly. It's pretty sad when you can't even get expelled.
I have to say that rather than upsetting me all of this stuff just cracked me up. By the end of the day I almost lost it. I may have my first gray hair, but damned if all this stuff wasn't hysterical. My life is stranger than fiction everyday.
