Theme for the weekend: friends, old and new.

joemarleybob has a journal now, though he's yet to write an entry. I'm waiting patiently! Otherwise he should email me and fill me in on the events of 2001. If not I'll have to go by his webpage, and James in a wet t-shirt is hardly enough information. ;)

My sweetest German friend, Carolin, sent me a Christmas package full of German candy. She is one of those wonderful people who remember to write even when I forget.

My no-longer-a-closet-case-but-maybe-I'm-only-bisexual friend Anna sent greetings from Russia. I sent her some childrens books and pretty beaded ornaments for Christmas. She only just got them, and the package had been opened by the Russian post office. Next time I'll send lesbian porn, that will be more exciting for the authorities.

My 1st grade teacher, now colleague though I may never get used to that, helped to wire my school last weekend. She saw my name outside my classroom, and left a note on my desk. We're meeting for coffee on Wednesday. Maybe she can give me some strategies for keeping my sanity while surrounded by 10 year olds.

All of these sweet camp friends are not helping me to decide between the familiar and the exotic. I guess there's never really a chance to make a clean break. I dream sometimes of leaving everything behind and reinventing myself elsewhere. But the threads that bind me, though each one is tiny, weave themselves into ropes and keep me stable. Not tied down, just rational. I still dream of snipping them one by one, but save myself by keeping the knots loose. Despite everything I need to live free of dependencies.

And before I forget, birthday wishes to grammardog. May the year bring everything you wish it to.
