Just wanted to post to let you know I'm alive.
Hurricane Charley was absolutely horrible and I'm a changed person because of it. It's going to take some time to get over it.
I kept a diary on my laptop during the ordeal so I'll post that later. My hometown has been torn to shreds and I'm still in shock, honestly.
Arcadia made the National News. The water tower a block from my house collapsed. The Turner Center where I graduated from high school? Caved in. The damage is just too surreal.
For two days, I got an idea of what it must be like to live in a war zone. My neighborhood unrecognizable thanks to trees split in half or laying on their sides... four separate helicopters circling our block taking aerial footage... new sirens starting every ten minutes. Images and sounds that will haunt me in dreams for a while.
My parents sent me to stay with my cousin and her fiancee in Brandon the day after the storm. They had to go back to work on Monday, but there's still no power in Arcadia. My parents have gone a week without running water or electricity and it's wearing them down.
I'm back in Gainesville now and need to do some moving. Will post the Charley Diaries later tonight.
