Most of the time, I hate Gainesville (as a city) because it doesn't feel like a place you could call home. It has the feeling of being just a place that 50,000 students call their temporary home and the town caters to us by having all the ammenities we could possibly want/need. I think that's why I love going home now - Arcadia feels real.
Well, yesterday I drove Mishy and her classmate out to their professor's house to deliver him dinner. It's part of their class project, basically he's an elderly man and the class is taking turns in pairs making him dinner, then delivering it by ringing the doorbell and running off before he can answer the door. They've been doing it for about a month now, so he's come to expect it so it doesn't have to be as stealthy-like, but I lent my Stealthy Sheep skills as the get-away driver. We drove way out to the outskirts of Gainesville, into this adorable neighborhood. Beautiful homes, children on bicycles, halloween decorations galore. And it reminded me that Gainesville IS a real town. It made me miss home, but it was nice to have that reminder. Plus it was incredibly fun walking up with Mishy and her friend, taking pictures of them in front of his door wearing crazy outfits/disguises just in case, and then running back to my car as fast as we could and speeding off in the Mustang. We looked back in time to see a young boy, his grandson, waving at us as we drove off. SO cute.
