(no subject)
Arcadia has a Chili's now. It's not open yet, but it's built. Doesn't seem to be furnished yet, but... wow. Arcadia has it's first chain restaurant (not counting the Clock or fast food)! Of course, it's been built in the Super Walmart parking lot, so now there's the Super Walmart, the Holiday Inn Express, Chili's, Wendy's and Sonic which have all been built since 2003. Also, they've installed a light at the entrance to the Walmart, but it isn't working yet. That will be nice, it was always scary pulling out of there.
The visit to the high school was pretty nice. The lady working the front desk (not Mrs. Newbold) apparently knew who I was even though I don't remember ever talking to her before. She wrote my name on the visitor pass without me even having to say... weird. Then I heard this voice go: "Is that Liz?" and saw Ben Plymale sitting in the office. I said hi and then headed off for the band room.
On the way, I ran into Travis' mom. She said she almost didn't recognize me (I guess it has been a while), but we talked for a while. She said Travis always tells her that no matter who I end up marrying, my parents will never like my husband as much as they liked him. *shakes head*
At the band room I chatted with Sulzman for a while, but then Leeanne and Ashley came in during lunch so we didn't get to talk for very long. Ashley was going about a million miles per second telling me stories, so then I stayed for Sulzman's music appreciation class so that I could talk for a little longer. He's making them write book reports on a musician's biography, and he's making Ashley do hers on Britney Spears just to annoy her. It was really funny to watch her pout and complain to him about having to read a book on Britney. Sulzman was reading really cheesy portions outloud and Ashley tried to get Mrs. Lacava to save her. Too funny.
Sulzman tried to get me to go home and fetch my clarinet and then come back and play, but I refused. I said I might come back next week, but only because they're playing Pirates of the Caribbean and Southwest Saga and I'd really like to play along with those =).
Finally, Wink news in Ft. Myers just showed a package about how Desoto has no shelter for the hurricane season because of the Turner Center collapse. They showed some images of the Turner Center all torn up, which was interesting to see. The woman they interviewed said something about using "one of the middle schools" as a shelter, and I laughed.
Desoto only has ONE middle school. Singular. Yeah.
