through the years people have asked me a lot about the guamanian side of me...or chamorro side. and i was really into it when i was little. i enjoyed going to the liberations, and heck yeah i love the barbeques. but i am not too into it anymore. i did visit guam for the very first time two xmas's ago...but i think it's b/c of my bitter feelings towards my dad that i am kind of blah towards the whole thing. anyways. everytime someone asks me about the language. i tend to sing the national anthem b/c that's all i know, and i remember learning it when i was little...i learned a hula dance too. little grass shack or something like that. it was really cute. but anyways. here's the national anthem of guam.
Fanohge Chamorro put it tano'-ta
Kanta i matuna-na gi todu i lugat
Para i onra, para i gloria
Abiba i isla sinparat.
Para i onra, para i gloria
Abiba i isla sinparat.
Todu i tiempo i pas para hita
Yan ginen i langet na bendision
Kontra i piligru na'fansafo' ham
Yu'os prutehi i islan Guam
Kontra i piligru na'fansafo' ham
Yu'os prutehi i islan Guam
and now the english translation.
Stand ye Guamanians for your country
And sing her praise from shore to shore
For her honor, for her glory
Exalt our island forever more.
For her honor, for her glory
Exalt our island forever more.
May everlasting peace reign o'er us
May heaven's blessing to us come
Against all perils, do not forsake us
God protect our isle of Guam.
Against all perils, do not forsake us
God protect our isle of Guam.
after singing along to the lyrics i realized i made the same mistakes when i tried to sing it last night that i made when i was little. lol. gotta break them old habits.
sometimes...just sometimes. i miss my dad.
all of a sudden i am emotional. BLAH!
