HIMEKA

Some of you may remember my love (obsession?) of HIMEKA's YouTube anime cover songs (as well as Nano's original music). Well, HIMEKA moved to Japan, entered some contests, won some contests, has three of her own Anime ending/opening singles, and a full Anime song cover album out already.

And I bought the Limited Edition of her cover album because I am a nerd who can't wait a few months for some other sucker to buy it and upload it.

And to the people (on YouTube; it seems she's received quite an excellent reception in Japan, actually) who keep saying things like, "I would respect her more if she would sing in her native language, she's not Japanese, her career is going to fail," I would like to present one Utada Hikaru as an example:

Utada Hikaru was born and raised in New York City. Her parents just so happen to be Japanese. Her first album (released in North America, in English) completely bombed. She moved to Japan, and her career took off. She keeps attempting to release English language albums in North America, and she keeps failing, while her career as a Japanese singer gets better and better. The fact that sheis of Japanese descent means nothing to me; the fact that she is an amazing singer means everything.

If your dream is to be a singer, you do whatever it takes to make it happen. Likewise, if you're a French-Canadian girl and your dream is to be a singer in Japan, you do whatever it takes to make it happen. And if you're lucky, like HIMEKA, and you manage to fulfill your dream while facing tough competition from native Japanese singers in Japan, that alone should speak for the amount of promising talent you have.

HIMEKA rant over. I hope she continues to do well. I also hope Nano's career takes off sometime soon, because that girl has talent just pouring out of her.
