Patti, this is now for you :) I've only been at the hospital for a little over a week and a half and I already have tons of stories. Also, it is like Grey's except I get to spend more time in surgery than they do on that show!

For the next two weeks, I'm on the vascular surgery service. Which is basically artery grafts and amputations. Today I was in on two above the knee amputations. Lovely right? Our attending for the first amputation was this awesome Indian guy who finished the whole thing in under an hour, who was also very nice. Then in the afternoon, we had an asshole attending who was just lovely to the nurses and an ass to the residents. And it took him over 2 hours to amputation the leg - which this women already has a below the knee amputation on this leg that was infected and we had to cut it off above the knee. And the operation wasnt even over then bc we needed to take out her infected graft and dissect through the part we cut off to find an artery to patch up the one in her leg with! We all wanted to kill him by the end of it. Thank god my chief resident this week is awesome and at 6pm finally said GO HOME!

And while I was in this second surgery, the scrub nurse looks at my earrings (which i got the stones on our cruise and then had them set up here and they were a gift from my parents and i love them) and goes, "you should give those to my, I have a ring to match them." And not joking either. I tried to joke and tell her I had a ring that matched also, and she goes, "yea but my ring is bigger." ACTUALLY my ring is twice the size of my earrings!!! Which I didn't say to her bc the nurses can make your life hell if you are mean to them.

Never a dull moment at the hospital.

ps. the emergency surgery guy is still alive in the SICU, yay!
