Along with their liberal approach to gays & lesbians, and a general sane approach to the universe, this is the kind of church I could see myself joining (if it were that simple).

Yeah, but not enough to marry them. I'm thinking that on some topics, the liberal approach is local rather than the whole denomination.

I am very good friends, from college, with a couple who grew up in the UMC (and I mean IN - they met at the UMC mission in Appalacian Kentucky where his parents worked full-time). They are some of the sanest people I know, and I totally agree with you about joining that kind of church.
