so the last few days have been good. busy, but good.
on sunday i went to see rent at the warner theater w/kren, joyce and brett bretterson (whose real last name i now know). amazing show. (the guy who played roger? absolutely gorgeous. grunge boys are wonderful.) so much going on, but so beautifully orchestrated. i've stolen kren's copy of the soundtrack for my car. good times.
bought garden state tonight. love that movie. (A) love the soundtrack. (2) the characters are so believable. sam is nuts, large is zoned, and everybody and their brother is a druggie, but somehow they are so real, so tangible and settled. like, you know from the get go that sam's The Girl and large is The Guy, but it never becomes overly sappy and sweet. they're cute, but they're content, which makes it much more emotionally accessible, i think.
and for the excitement segment of our post... our apartment tried to burn down tonight. well, ok, not really. more like kind of flooded, but there were fire alarms and fire trucks and firemen and such. heard the fire alarm go off. didn't really know what it was at first, but brett, joyce and i decided to ignore it and watch our movie. (smart, i know). stopped after a few minutes. then started again. went for a while. sent brett bretterson out to investigate. alarm stopped, brett returned. kren tried calling the front desk to see what was happening, but no one answered. then the alarm goes off a third time. at this point we decide that mayhaps we should actually leave our apartment, just in case something is actually burning. take the stairs like good little monkeys. get down to the lobby and there's water dripping out of the ceiling into a trashcan. a few tiles are missing. and the water gets more and more. and more tiles come crashing down. and you can see water pouring down the walls. so, since we were obviously not in any danger, we did what any smart person would do and stood around and watched. watched the firemen carefully poke at the ceiling tiles, waiting for stuff to come crashing down. (it didn't; well, not on them). joyce told me that i should go chat up one of the firemen, since i was the only one of the group to have dated one. (response: been there, done that. *grin*) then joyce seemed shocked that i'd never seen andy in full gear (as our firemen friends were). i explained that usually one just wore the pants and the shirt down to the station. :) started singing "rent" from rent ("we're not gonna pay last year's rent!"). figured it was somewhat appropriate as i watched much water damage occurring to the building. and trying to work off adrenaline. it's one of those things, where you figure, no, the building's prolly not on fire and you can just chill (like chandler in joey in that episode of friends, where they feel the floor, decide it's not hot, and stay in their comfy chairs). but then you get this feeling that ignoring the fire alarm is very wrong. like when i went taking pictures on a train track one day. obviously very rarely used track and there was tons of visibility, so there was no real danger. at the same time, however, there was this very real sense on wrongness. "i am not supposed to be playing on train tracks." tonight was kind of like that. amazing how hard it is to overcome that ingrained response. fire alarm goes off, be a good sheep and go outside. (well, unless you're in a college dorm, in which case, most likely a fire drill or some idiot burning pop corn. then less worrisome) so anyhow, tho there was nothing really bad happening, took a minute to calm down that fight or flight instinct. when i did calm down some, i went to get my camera to take time lapse pictures of the firetrucks. didn't come out quite as i'd hoped (couldn't get it to expose long enough on the trucks b/c there was too much light), but got some really awesome shots anyhow. much more abstract, but cool nonetheless. i'll post them up once i put them on my compy. one of them is just balls of red, yellow and white light, which i think i may blow up for my living room wall. just some more pictures for my abstract "fire truck" series (i.e. liz takes pictures of fire trucks at night, and they look like very abstract lights).
ok. that's that. now time for sleep. been putting in long days at work as i've been working on a proposal. it's pretty cool. i've been given charge on getting a proposal for security services for the jamestown scotland ferry done. granted, i've gotten a lot of help orgranizing from sharon and writing help from charlie, but i'm still in charge. it's neat that charlie and mrs. marvil have faith in me to get this accomplished on time. especially as i get some slack, as mrs. marvil knows i'm still learning. i never would have thought that i'd come in to work on web page text and end up doing business development and proposal writing 9 months later. good skills to know, tho, i think.
might work on getting stuff together to apply for a web dev/design job at antharia (liberal, wear jeans, bring your dog to work company), b/c i like dev/design and it seems like the coolest place ever to work. kinda would miss securiguard, tho. i've been mrs. marvil's assistant, and thus protege, so im getting to learn and do cool things. and it's always good when the boss lady likes you. (hmm... as i write, echoes of post articles describing pple getting canned for talking about work in blogs float through my mind. hmm...)
alright. really done this time. spokoinoi noch'.
