(no subject)
I'm so angry right now. I want to hit something. My brother called to tell me that the home I grew up in is rumored to no longer be standing, that 2 of my friends have yet to be accounted for and 2 of their grandparents are dead. No one in this fucking country seems to be grasping the amount of chaos that's going on in Louisiana. WE LOST AN ENTIRE AMERICAN CITY PEOPLE! It's gone. It's dead. There's NOTHING. No commerce. No economy. EVEN AFTER 9/11 there was still a government and a sense of hope. In New Orleans, the police are just standing by as the scum of the earth loots the stores and walks the street with AK47s. Dozens of my friends not only don't have homes to go back to... but they don't have a LIFE to go back to! They lost everything, even they're jobs. They're going to have to take what little possessions they have and start from scratch. And this goes for HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of people. I went to dinner tonight with some friends and not once did they bring up new orleans. I came home and my roommate was watching Punkie Brewster - what is WRONG with you?! The destruction of this disaster is greater than 9/11 and will take longer to recover from but WHY doesn't the rest of the country care?! Lord knows that if we were attacked by terrorist and it had this same affect THEN people would take it personally. I want to fucking slap everyone and tell them that they just lost one of America's greatest cities. Assholes. I just don't get why no one seems to care. I'm so so very pissed.
