Break Over, back to fangirling and fic
Jeez guys, I told you, I'm fine!. Stil, thank you. I feel very loved.
Anyway, on to other things, like Doctor Who and fanfic, because I never talk about those. Ahem.
So mike went to the library yesterday while I was screwing around on the internets recovering and picked up some DVDs - including the recent releace of The Time Warrior. EEEEEEEEEE!! For those of you not up on your Classic Who, this thing's memorable for being the introductory episode for both Sarah Jane Smith and the Sontarans. (Yes, newhobies, SJ and the Mr Potato Head crew go waaaaaaaaaay back) And this makes it an instant classic in teh Liza'sd eyes. Rewatching it, it is a load of fun, what with crazy Irongron being all shouty villain, and Linx being all "bitch, please" and "so much a better warrior than you", and the Doctor defeating the invading bandits with stink bombs, OMG, and Sarah being all "make your own coffee, bitch" and the doctor being all "fine maybe I will" and Sarah running around and DOING stuff and dude - she rescued the Doctor her first time out (even though she thought she was capturing him - long story).
And Linx is bloody marvellous at establishing right from the start how awesome Sontarrans are (don't look at me like that - you have your favourite non-dalek monster, I'll have mine) and is very consistant in the culture. I love how there's a part of him that really delights in seeing these primitives play with the toys he makes them - "aw, bless, they think they're warriors; ain't it cute? Here, have a robot." - but his patience has limits. I love watching him and Irongron play off each other: Irongron thinks they're using each other evenly; he has no idea just how fucking tolerant and patient Linx is being.
About the only thing that marrs this gem is that the effects guy was so slack-arse that the effects are bloody rubbish even by 70's BBC standards. Yes.
I'm totally going to go home and watch it over again with Lis Sladen's commentary (hee! In the doccu you could totally tell they shot her interview bits on Bannerman road!) and the remastered CGI effects.
tl;dr: The Time Warrior = Sarah Jane being awesome 1st time + Sontarans being awesome for 1st time = FUCKING WIN
Got my assignment(s) for remixthedrabble - I know which fandom I'm doing for my primary one, though the drabble my brain has latched on to I'm not sure what to do with. Ah well. Was planning on doing some work no that today but - genius that I am - I forgot to bring my flash drive to work today. *headdesk*
I think what with the remixes I'm not going to to NaNo. It's a bit much for me anyway.
