Pretty Good Day, if Very Not Accomplish-y

Apr 18, 2008 00:34

I'm like a chicken with my head cut off today, or maybe a ferret - so many things I want to do/get to, so little ability to concentrate on something for more than five minutes before distracted by The Next Shiny Thing. Arrgh.

At least things got accomplished today, even if they weren't the things I wanted to get accomplished, nor things that Mike wouldn't have been able to accomplish without me. Still, there are worse ways to spend a day off. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

An update on the Liza, for those who are curious and maybe impatient with all the Doctor Who stuff, fun as it is: well, I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure I did not get the Staples job. They said they'd tell me by Monday, it's Thursday, and I had to call them and even then I got the answering machine saying the guy I was in contact with is out of the office for the next three days. It doesn't take a genius.

On the other hand... I had a telephone interview with a lady from CIBC, and while we both agreed that directed sales outbound calling is not for me, she thinks I'd be perfect for inbound, which they're doing a hiring wave for in June, so would I please advance to the next step? And I kept my head this time and asked about salary (like I forgot to do with Staples) and... er... um. Well. Ah, let's just say it's more. More than I make now. More than Mike makes now. More than either of us has made for anything (barring Mike's theatre tech work). When we were walking through the Canadian Tire parking lot back to our car after picking up coolant, we talked about (in a very very very tentative "this might just be remotely possible maybe" kind of way) logistics for saving up for OzScape 3.

(computer_boy, I can hear you hyperventilating from here. Stop it. ;) It's not even remotely for sure yet.)

...for those not in the know, OzScape is the big biannual (er, duanual? What's the word for "held once every two years"?) Farscape Convention Down Under. They're holding it in Melbourne this time, which is actually a bit of a let-down for me - I've always wanted to go to Sydney especially, not for the Opera House or any of that usual stuff, but to visit Priscilla and Matrix locations (still pissed I missed out on swinging past Alameda on the Burbank trip!) and maybe pop in at STC to pay my respects. But... still. Australia. Always wanted to go there. Farscape con. Can never go to enough of those. Good chance lots of Scapers I missed at Burbank (SCORPSIK!!!! ♥) will be there. VERY good chance Paul will be there. (OMG!!!) But even though it's next summer it's definitely a "start saving now" thing. (Airfare to Australia, OMFG.) Like I said to Mike in the aforementioned Canadian Tire parking lot: I am never, ever doing a trip if I can't cover the budget again. I am over-budgeting, and meeting that budget, or I'm not going. One night almost-homeless in Reno was enough for one lifetime, thank you very much, not to mention living on stale pitas and lunch meat for over a week. Not that I'd trade the experiences on that trip for anything, or that the good didn't outweigh the bad, but... it's called learning from experience, and I try to do it as much as possible.

But that's enough about that.

Something I've been meaning to get to for a while now, and should get to before they actually reveal the authors: remixthedrabble stories are up! (Have been for a while, actually) I'm so happy with the two I received - two amazing Farscape remixes, of two very "meh" drabbles of mine! I myself contributed five stories: my primary assignment, three of my four secondary assignments, and a pinch hit. I'm so proud!!

I was wondering - would folks so inclined to reading fic mind taking a look over the fics and seeing if they can spot one or more of the five I wrote? I'd be really really interested to hear what people thought - and god, there's so much amazing fic worth reading!! Because of the unprecedentedly huge turnout this round, I'll link here to fics in the fandoms I know well enough to write: Blakes7 (4), Doctor Who (5), Due South (9), Farscape (4 2 that aren't remixes of my fic), Firefly (6), Harry Potter (11), Lord of the Rings (1), Pan's Labrynth (1), Slings and Arrows (1), Star Trek: DS9 (1), Stargate: Atlantis (5), Wilby Wonderful (1), X-Men (1).

For those of you going "But there's more than that in that fandom!" I only counted the ones from this round - though by all means if you wanna read older stuff go to it, just remember there's no way I could have written them when guessing. (And please, she says, being pathetic, please please guess! Guessing is the most fun thing about secret author exchanges, and nobody's ever guessed about mine before!)

Speaking of which, I'm going to guess that Detante (The Gray, Gold and Green Remix) was written by eve11 and Dominating the Lesser Races (The This is Not the Way Home Remix) was by kernezelda.

It's getting late and I should hit the hay - sorry f'list, you'll have to wait some more for me to read you, sigh.
