Gifts

When Liz entered their shared room late that afternoon, she wore a rather rare mysterious smile. A mystery that was, however, immediately given away by the large package in her arms. Despite knowing that her girlfriend must be very curious to the package or why she had that mysterious smile on her face, Liz said nothing, but placed the wrapped gift ( Read more... )

Liz wobbled a bit on her feet, shyly, like a young, little girl. A blush began to colour her face. "No... Katelyn is the one who always comes with gifts and presents. I know you work hard for it as well. So... I just... I wanted to give something back in return." Liz smiled a bit shyly at Katelyn for her own weird reasoning. She could be sexy, naughty, pleasing... but deep behind that all, she was still the same, shy girl she was when she first arrived at St. Catherine's.

Liz watched while Katelyn pulled the ribbon loose and removed the lid that closed the box. Inside it were two plushies. One was big and also covering the second one. A black panther, shaped in such a way that it seemed both strong and stealthy all at once. A strong predator, good at fighting and always living in the wild. Liz thought it might have been a good representation of her girlfriend.

The other one was significantly smaller, though also a feline. A normal kitten, white with grey stripes, fuzzy and cute. Although also still a predator, it was not as strong as the panther and often more seen as cute and cozy than strong.

Liz moved a bit closer to Katelyn. "I... I sometimes catch glimpses of a room filled with plushies. I know it's from when you were very, very young. I didn't know what else to give you, so... I hope this is alright."

OOC: Just for my reference, did I talk to you about 'knuffelbeesten' or 'plushies' when I asked the question? Oo I can somehow vaguely remember using the first term when discussing the gift for Katelyn... I think I really start to lose myself in all the languages I can speak. XD;

Kate opened up that box and pulled the first of the two items out as Liz moved closer, speaking to her. But Katelyn did not say anything back. Instead, she was left dumbfounded, unable to speak and unable to voice how she truly felt. All she could do was stare into that plush cat's eyes. She stood in awkward silence as Liz awaited words that would not come. Even the normally expressive girl's emotions were blank; too many emotions mixed within her, leaving her so confused and uncertain that even an accomplished Seer could not make sense of the feelings even Kate could not describe.

The silence worried Liz a bit, and she couldn't quite figure out what Kate thought about it either based on her emotions. There were too many emotions and she felt them all. She was good at sensing emotions, but only in the direct way as the person who experienced them felt those emotions.

"It's... it's not good...?" she asked in a small voice. "You... you don't... don't like it...? I could... I can maybe... maybe change it at the store... I just thought... y-you're always s-strong and... and... elegant... and agile..."

Her voice trailed off, no longer daring to speak any further. She doubted Katelyn would get angry, but a disappointed Kate would be just as bad as an angry Kate.

Kate didn't react to Liz's words, neither reassuring her nor saying anything to confirm those doubts and fears. But as the Seer's voice trailed off, she buried her face into the feline's plush fur, holding the animal close to her chest in a tight hug.

Touched beyond words still she said nothing, but a few silent tears began to trickle down her cheek. Her memories were tinged by a hint of sadness, but these simple toys brought back some of her most cherished memories from her youth. "M-my, daddy," she finally managed to mumble, her face still pressed into the animal's soft side. "He, would bring me these as presents. Whenever he went on trips. They were, really special, for me." Feeling that she was about to get choked up, the normally strong girl fell quiet once more. "Thank you," she added in a hoarse whisper.

The lack of response began to worry Liz more and more. She had thought she'd read the signs correctly! She thought Kate would've liked such a present. But now the Seer began to doubt if it hadn't been better to give Katelyn something pretty, like a necklace or a bracelet.

The shy girl really had a moment of panic when she saw tears on Kate's cheek. She'd only tried to do something nice, and of course she had to screw things up! Liz stood almost ready to snatch the plushie from Kate's arms, stuff it back into the box and run back to the shop to change it for something else when the first few words came. Words that told the Seer Katelyn wasn't upset or disappointed or anything like that at all.

A shy, hesitant smile crept on her face, and Liz felt relieved to know that her girlfriend liked it. They had been special to her once, and they still seemed to mean a lot to her now. The girl slowly put her arms around Katelyn in a tight hug.

"There's... there's one more," she said softly in Kate's ear. "He's not as big as the panther... he's not strong either... and he's very shy. But maybe the panther can protect him from all the dangers and comfort him when he's scared?"

Kate felt silly, almost embarrassed, at how a few simple toys could bring about such a reaction. But a hesitant smile of her own reluctantly crept onto her face as well.

Not letting go of her first stuffed cat, she tucked this under her right arm and reached into the box with her left to discover another present that her Liz had gotten for her. This one was much cuter, a small, fluffy, fuzzy little kitten that was almost as adorable as Liz herself was. Her arms now full, a fluffy kitten in one and a fuzzy panther in the other, Kate returned that hug catching Liz between them both in a warm embrace.

It was a bit tight in that embrace. Kate might have the strength to lift up three Lizzes, but size sometimes mattered at well. With already two plushies in her arms, a nearly grown-up girl hardly seemed to fit. But it was the thought that mattered, even if she got squashed against Kate and the plushies.

"I'm glad you like it," Liz said shyly. Then something caught her attention, which she had probably known all along, just never really noticed. "Though I think I should've bought a bigger cat? I seem to be taller than you... Not that it really differs much..."

OOC: If my memory serves, Liz has grown taller than Kate? XD Let me know if I'm wrong, though.

Kate smiled a bit at that, arms still full of kittens and cats and Liz. "Only just a little bit," she quickly replied as she raised up on her toes to give Liz a peck on the lips. There was a light laugh once their lips did part. "Besides! I could still be taller," she teased back, "if I really wanted."

((OOC: Too lazy to look up the chat logs, but it was only an inch or two at the most. So not very much at all, but just slightly. Of course, it's all kind of a moot point when you're talking about a shapeshifter?)) XD;

Liz giggled at the kiss and ran a hand through Kate's hair. She shook her head a little at that teasing as she gazed at her girlfriend. "No, you don't have to change... You don't have to be taller..." Fingers reached the end of Kate's hair and now trailed down over the girl's neck and arm. A warm smile was directed at the strong Slayer. "You're fine just the way you are."
