So here I am, de-pollinating my apartment and I stupidly decide to take a brain-break.
(Have I mentioned that everything is a fuzzy green? 'Cause it is, it really, really is.)
Anyway, I have a weakness for mash-ups. A serious weakness. I really, really love mash-ups in which the opening credits of one television series is imposed on the other. The more outlandish, the better.
This unholy love was started when I caught a Firefly/The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. trade-off. I've been hooked every since.
All embedded videos under the cut.
The video quality isn't the best, and the vidder had to trim The Adventures Brisco County Jr. theme song a little bit to make it fit, but this works surprisingly well as the Firefly theme. The general western feel of the orchestral opening certainly fits the spirit, if nothing else.

Well, naturally, you only have to wonder what would happen if you gave The Adventures Brisco County Jr. the Firefly theme song, right? The opening credits for The Adventures Brisco County Jr. had to be trimmed to fit the much, much shorter theme song, but again it's a pretty good fit. Again, video quality is a little iffy, but it's fun to look at.

Whee! That was fun. But, wait! There's more!
Now this is a very handsome-looking set of alternate credits indeed. The vidder pulled some very nice clips from various Battlestar Galactica episodes and matched them up to the Firefly theme song. End result? It sure could pass as legit.

This is another case of the Firefly theme song imposed on Battlestar Galactica. It's a nice little set of alterna-credits, but not as good as the video above.

Of course, the collection wouldn't be complete without something totally cracktastic, right? How about The Office switching themes with Battlestar Galactica?
This...should not work nearly as well as it does. What's really terrifying is that with the right clips and the right editing, the theme from The Office is practically a lock for that smash-hit comedy Battlestar Galactica that exists somewhere in an alternate universe.

Meanwhile, in that same universe, that hit drama on a tiny cable channel, The Office, is getting critical raves. This one is a tougher fit, but in the end works thanks to some clever editing. Oh, and it did kind of make me laugh.

You know, I remember seeing the original U.K. version of The Office on one of my local PBS stations. It's the original series that scared me away from watching the U.S. version until I decided to try it through the magic of Netflix.
Someone decided to impose the U.K. theme on the U.S. opening credits.
No matter how you slice it, this looks like a completely different show with the U.K. theme, even though there's very little by way of editing the U.S. credits, at least from what I can see.

If that wasn't exciting enough for you, you can always check out Jack Bauer's day at The Office.
This one is The Office theme posed on 24. This works surprisingly well, too. I wonder if it's some kind of bouncy magic that's specific to The Office theme.

Well, now we're going to randomly swing in another direction. This time, it's Buffy the Vampire Slayer's theme imposed on poor, ol' Battlestar Galactica
The cuts are just a little too frenetic to make the Buffy the Vampire Slayer theme work with the altered Battlestar Galactica credits. I think a slightly better vidder could've done a bang-up job. If nothing else, this is a really good proof-of-concept.

Of course, no mash-up would be complete without the opening credits of Buffy set to...One Day at a Time?!?
This is another one that shouldn't fit. Once you get over the shock of hearing 1970s retro-pastiche over the credits, it, unh, really does kind of work. Visuals are from the opening credits of Buffy S5.

Yeah, that was indeed cracktastic, wasn't it? Guess what! I found something else that's gonna really break your brain.
When I first saw this, I actually did a headtilt. Twenty minutes later, it hit my funny bone and I haven't stopped giggling. Okay, maybe I'm weak like veal, but I can't help it. I think slapping The Facts of Life over the Buffy S7 credits is funny as all hell.

Now that we've all had our brains broken, how about seeing what would happen if Battlestar Galactica had to carry the theme from Stargate: SG-1.
I wasn't a huge fan of this one. Then I saw the very, very end and suddenly it worked! Naturally, the opening credits for Battlestar had to be re-edited to make it work with the SG-1 theme, so don't expect a miracle here.

You know, you just know that someone had to use the theme song from the original Battlestar Galactica for the new one, right? Would you be shocked if I told you that it was frakking amazing?
What's truly impressive about this video is that the vidder went all out. They didn't just throw the old 1978 theme song on top of a bunch of the new series' clips. Oh, no. They edited the footage so that it has the exact feel of the original series. Obviously, they're not exactly the same (the headshots are missing with the credits, for a start), the the feel of it...man, I had flashbacks. For reals.
The only fault I can find is they had to re-loop the closing bars to fit everything in, but it's such a minor, minor thing that I can easily forgive.

And now for something completely different...
Fans of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine know that the theme song for that series changed at the start of the Dominion War arc that lasted through several seasons. What if it was the Battlestar Galactica theme that was imposed on Deep Space Nine?
Prepare to have your jaw drop.
This video left me speechless. Truly. Obviously, new cuts were chosen from across the Dominion War arc to fit the Battlestar Galactica theme, but this was...guh! Fantastic job! This so could've worked.
