How is bigotry good for business again?

Edit: Update below, news round-up.

******

When I think of gardners, I think of all the kind-hearted people on my Flist who take pictures of their fields and farms. True, I have the ultimate in brown thumbs, so I tend to skim the actual how-to posts, but pictures pretty!

What I generally don't think is "homophobic bigot" when I think of gardners ( Read more... )

You are made of gold stars and high fives.

I'd love to see what your response to him is, if you feel up to sharing.

I have to wait until I get home since I'm at work. :-)

But I will definitely update the post and give you a link.

Thanks for pointing this out! (More than a few other people on my flist did, too, but I don't read Stoney's LJ on a regular basis so I might easily have missed it.) I sent supportive email to CBS and a polite but disappointed email to outsidepride.

*waves* I suspect a lot of people on my FList saw this several times. I think I lost count how many times I saw it.

I've gotten this from 2 other people on my flist. I've been trying to figure out how to respond. Since I suffer from the same brown thumb as yourself my opinion will mean less than nothing to Mr. Hake. I could attempt to pin him to the wall with theological arguments but I doubt that is the actual source of his unease. I could chastise him for thinking of Cold Case and Without a Trace as "wholesome family entertainment" when they are so obviously intended for an adult audience. Than again, I could deplore his complete lack of professionalism in using his client list to broadcast such tripe ( ... )

I very much agree with you. I'm just positively thrown by the fact that a business owner thought it was a good idea to send an email blast like this to his clientelle.

Not only did he annoy his gay customers and the customers who don't agree with him, I imagine he probably annoyed customers who might agree with him in principle, but don't appreciate the fact that they got blasted with what is essentially a political screed when they signed on for a gardening newsletter.

He might pick up some new business as a result of this, but I can't imagine that it'll make up for the business he's going to lose as a result. Even though I (obviously) don't agree with his stance, why create such a deadly cocktail by mixing the two in such a way that people where not only shocked, but felt they got slapped when they read it because it was so unexpected? *shakes head*

What really confuzzles me, however, is the idea that Without a Trace and Cold Case is "family entertainment." They're crime dramas, and we're not talking Dragnet-style crime dramas ( ... )

Hey, prudishness is underrated. :)

The man is an idiot as well as a bigot. There's no way this hasn't bitten him on the ass.

AND the other thing is he keeps referring to CBS as PUBLIC TELEVISION. Network tv, it is, but not PBS.

Remember the program on the Louds, years ago? Wonder what he'd have to say about that?

Thanks for including the links to other stories about this :)

I just added more links. It turns out they're using a canned response to reply to emails, so it's doubtful they're reading anything that's sent to them.

His post was definitely the funniest of the lot, not the least of which he was absolutely spot on.

Frankly, I'd be surprised if there weren't people who were pissed off that even agreed in principle with the guy. People agreed to get his company's newsletter because they expected gardening info, not politices. Some people are going to view it as a violation of company trust because of the screed.
