Glee Season 4 Re-watch - Final Thoughts

Sep 20, 2013 22:38

So, Season 4, what can I make of you? For my season-end recap, I’m going to go from big picture down to little detail, working through some of the things I loved, and some of the things I didn’t.

Spoilers through 4x22, but none for Season 5. Not even wishful thinking. )

I wholeheartedly agree. I only wish we could have gotten to SEE more of Kurt's development in New York. We saw a lot of Blaine's growth, which I enjoyed, I just wish we'd seen more of Kurt's.

I can see what you mean about Come What May. I enjoyed it, but it's a tricky range. Because they're a full octave apart for sections of it, it ends up being a pretty low end of Darren's range and a very high end of Chris's. It doesn't spend a lot of time in either of their sweet spots. Still, I loved it.

I was tempted to put Everybody Wants to Rule the World on my list, too. I tend to forget about it because I didn't find "Makeover" to be a super-memorable episode (it was good, I just always seem to forget about it). And Getting Married Today was such a surprise, it delights me every time.

THREE DAYS OMFG EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKK.

so glad you will be recapping. and your final take is so positive.

I suspect I wouldn't have started watching without those boys being in the midst of a break up. They are beautiful together but from what I've seen of earlier seasons it's frequently in the background. It really captured me, the way they were so-in-love, so visibly in love, and so apart. Also it means we get a second chance for them to fall for each other, kind of.

It looks like Australia will be only about a day behind in watching. As it's showing on a Friday I have started a week-long campaign to get my partner watching so I can watch with her. Thus far she doesn't seem to mind.

I wonder if that's part of what bothered me about Season 3. Season 2 was a delicious build-up and beginning to their relationship, and the beginning of Season 3 was pretty darn good, too. But for the bulk of the season, they were just happily in the background, doing very little. There was no tension, no growing. Just part of the scenery. Which is comforting, in a way, but not so interesting to watch.

Nice that you're only a day behind and don't have to wait for ages as all of us obnoxious Americans flip out over each new episode!

I'm glad you enjoy the recaps, and that it comes across ultimately as positive. I know I can be critical and snarky a lot of the time, but I really do love this crazy show.

Hmmm, that's probably a very balanced view of the season, all in all.

For favourite songs, definitely:

It’s Time
My Dark Side
This is the New Year

But I'd also add "At the Ballet" (because I love it) and "Just the way you are/never fully dressed without a smile" mashup from early in the season. I loved that number.

(Heh. Apparently, my list just involves more SJP.)
