I've thankfully managed to block the song titles from my mind. Other than what was in the promo, I couldn't tell you what they were if I tried. Yay for compartmentalizing, apparently?
There were decent parts, for sure. But overall, I was very eh. And it just pings that sore spot of the fact that this year REFUSES TO DIE. I had some warm-fuzzy/bittersweet feelings after last week and the apparent death of New Directions. So I was looking forward to this being our goodbye. But to have it unexpectedly (for me) drawn out is sapping all of my goodwill and just making me impatient for more New York.
That was my first thought when I saw his outfit (that he looked like Charlie Brown), I didn't past thinking how good he looked though. Very interesting thought!
My reaction is a lot like yours, though perhaps a bit more generous because I managed to largely avoid the hype -- I didn't even know this was the 100th ep until someone mentioned it after last week's ep
( ... )
I wanted to be more generous, I really did. And there are good parts in there. Gems amidst the rocks or something.
Would I recognize this show if it made sense?
HAHAHA, probably not.
I completely agree that the songs on Glee are most interesting when they do something *different.* Make it a capella, slow it down, genderswap it, etc. The literal copies are seldom my favorites. And this was mostly adequate (at best) or unfortunate (at worst) copies of previous versions of the songs. And as you say, that's probably why "Keep Holding On" was so compelling. It was more in context than anything else in the show, it actually spoke to what was going on, while reminding us exactly how it did it the first time around, and managed to be really moving.
Hey Liz. I hope you're feeling better today; look at it this way: at least it's not snowing. While over all I liked the episode, I agree, there was something off about it that I couldn't put my finger on. I think it is a combination of expectations vs reality. Also, I am still entirely ambivalent regarding the dissolution of the glee club. I was very surprised to find I was drawn in more by the scenes than the songs. I enjoyed them but you do make good point about music retreads. Good to see some additions to the happy ending parade: Q&P, reopening the Brittana door(?)... Did you notice in one scene Mike's hair was gelled a la Blaine? In my head, he's making a play to get Tina back
( ... )
The energy of my grumpiness has died down, but I am still of the opinion that it really wasn't a great episode. It has its moments, certainly. I think even the worst episode of Glee has something I like about it, and this had a number of things that were good. But as a cohesive whole, it was "meh" at best.
But I quite agree with you. There were some great little moments from Kurt, in the background and elsewhere, which are always a joy to watch. And really, he was having fun but seems to me to be very much above the petty choir room drama. And you're right, there was Blaine, gentleman as always. *sigh*
Yes, absolutely still invested in the show and where it's going, so I'm not wringing my hands in my handkerchief. This one just wasn't really a winner in my book.
I'm not really feeling anything about this episode, which I don't know if it has to do with the ep itself, or with the fact that I cried my way through last week's, and now nothing can quite measure up to those emotions.
And just... if the glee club is going to die, CAN IT DIE ALREADY? All that back-and-forth is getting too much for me.
There really wasn't a ton of feeling to be had, it seems. As flaming_muse said in her recap, this was an episode that *should* have had me hooked and swooning with nostalgia. But it didn't.
