man, I don't think there's anything about this story I don't absolutely like.
the creative way you used military terminology, sliding it into the rest of Kara's vocabulary like the easy slang it would be for her, works awesomely. as does the juxtaposition of Kara's different names and sides against each other.
the interaction between Kara and Cain is spot on, and having Kara visit Helo and Tyrol was so heart-warmingly right.
thanks ever so much for taking part in this round!
You really are too kind. I didn't have the time or energy this past week to do PG13+ C/K justice, so I rushed and it came out all gen and stuff. Ehh. Thanks, anyhow. :)
ooh, I like this very much - it's got a great air of quiet menace about it that suits the pairing very well.
This bit, in particular, really felt right to me: If she disappoints Helena Cain, there will be no hugs, no tearful reconciliation - there will be dark, irrevocable consequences. She is gambling with her life, and there is no way to fold out of the game. With this realization comes a tickling thrill, a whisper of exhilaration cooling along her tight, sweaty back.
This is so wonderfully, beautifully done on so many levels, I can't begin to cover it all. Everything about this is just sizzling hot from the dialogue, to the sentence-level writing, to nuanced characterization. I think this could be the only fic that deserves an NC-17 despite the fact that it contains no sex, violence, or naughty language. Because it's that complex, that smart, and just that fucking hot/good.
I'm just...gah!
Also, I was slightly more articulate in my rec. Promise. :)

Geezum, pete. Thanks. I didn't really expect anyone to like this piece, primarily due to the absence of overt dirt. I didn't even know if it qualified as femslash.
In my filthy brain, Kara/Cain were so friction-y, so destined to rumble that only character death could avert the inevitable frakking. But (for me) writing that sort of physical flare-up takes energy and I was tapped, so I outsourced the work: imply stuff here and there, seed the clouds and let the individual reader make rain. If that's what they want.
Gah. Too much info. Sorry for the babble. Thanks again for the super-sweet rec - I really appreciate it. *G*
