So, two major revelations in my life...well one minor victory and another, not so much a revelation but an a skill I now recognize as having acquired. Well actually, both fit into the latter category.
Anyways, first, as a result of the Zidane headbutt I've been watching/listening to French news incessantly and also watched his interview online. Revelation: I can actually understand the conversation, not just bits and pieces and having to put everything into a certain context and not having to have the conversations be incredibly elementary to understand, but actually understanding everything except a few words here and there. Mme Dunham and all those years in french have finally paid off! Yay!
*Interestingly enough, Zidane won't say what the Italian defender said to him, he wants the people at FIFA to use video evidence to figure it out, though he does say that it had something to do with his mother and sister. Materazzi even more interestingly denies all accusations of insulting his family, race, or ethnicity. (I don't really know what else could set a man off: Family is probably a universally touchy issue for men with close-knit ones and race would be as well if it's as blatent as people report it being in European soccer and you face it year after year after year.) However, he gven goes onto praise Zidane as deserving of the MVP of the World Cup and calls him his hero. In fact, as each day progresses, I almost feel like Materazzi is coming close to defending Zidane...which seems rather wierd initially, but in the end is just kind of funny. Which, I'm finding this whole situation...a headbutt to the chest? Hilarious! I think it'll make this World Cup a little more memorable than past ones. But, now I'm interested to see what FIFA rules: what they believe was said, what the punishments will be, and if they will strip Zidane of his award.
Secondly, I'm in the process of making lunch for the people in my program and we managed to spend under $80 dollars for 15 people: Jamabalaya, Pasta w/pesto, French bread (with garlic seasoning), Ceaser salad, brownies, Cinnamon puffs, and Drinks. Not too bad I would think being on a budget and having to scrouonge for cooking utensils. So, I now I know that I could live on my own on a budget, which is comforting since it might be happening sooner rather than later.
