So before I really get into it, I just wanna give shouts out to Kate and Chuck for giving me a wonderful b-day brunch and for getting up really early to get me to the airport for my flight to...NEW YORK!
AHHHH! There's way too much to do and it's all WAY TOO EXPENSIVE (a 1 and half in. X 4 in. X 4 in block of cheese is $5!) but asides from that, I can't complain. I'm residing on the upper east side, which is the sickeningly posh side of the city (think apartments/homes going for a couple million) but probably one of the safest areas.
My lab has been very not stressful. I'm working on mice that contain a specific gene deletion which my principle investigator (P.I.) / "head-of-the-lab" think has to do with connective tissue (the layer of cells underneath the skin). So, to make a long story short, I'm mating mice and then I'm gonna cut 'em up to get the embryos out to see if indeed the missing gene affects connective tissue. I'm so excited! My P.I. is really chill who participates in a number of iron man competitions (so a little scatterbrained) and will be running in the NYC marathon; so that's pretty cool.
I'm going to be seeing Dave Brubeck w/Bill Cosby in Carnegie as part of NYC's jazz festival and I feel like that might be a pretty big highlight in my summer here.
It's kinda weird, I was actually a little wary about coming out here, but maybe that's just how I get with big trips.
I took a walk to and around central park with another person in the program and there was a random concert in the middle of it (had to pay of course). I love the randomness of this place. So now, I'm pleasently content.
