The Universe's theme for me today: discoveries and scientific (not artistic) genius happen, more often than not, accidentally.
On exploring our oceans - I love his enthusiasm and totally agree it needs to be done... At the same time though, I imagine this will also destroy the oceans in the blink of an eye, so hopefully they handle it in a measured way...

I absolutely love TED.com... perhaps it's naive of me, but watching these speakers offers me hope. Of course I can see the flip side that even with so many brilliant minds amongst us, the world is extremely slow to change and any major impact will be made by those who wield power, who unfortunately are often the same people who are blinded by politics and personal agendas. However, I think these are just like films or any other form of art - even if these clips cause only a single human-being each day to think more deeply about something, it's a step towards finding solutions for survival or even a better world. I'm all for it... even though, the truth is, the human race really deserves to be wiped out. :)
