Today was kinda random. I knew I wanted to go to New York today. I really had the desire to spend some time in the city. I had no idea that I would bring my bike and spend 6 hours riding around all of Manhattan!
I woke up a little later than I had wanted to so I grabbed my bike to get to the train station. Figuring I'd leave it in Stratford and head into the city. Then I realized that it would be an off peak train which meant I could take my bike on all the way there. So I did! Got into Grand Central and that's where it began...
From Grand Central I rode to South St. Seaport. Rode around that area for awhile since it is one of my favorite places down there. Then went up to Times Square and the theater district. From there I rode to Central Park, I've had the desire to visit Strawberry Fields for a while now, and since I was in the area I finally got to go there. For those who aren't familiar with Strawberry Fields, it is the place where John Lennon wrote the song "Strawberry Fields Forever". After meditating and praying for a while there I left for another long ride into uptown. I actually made it to the upper most point of Manhattan. And sat near the water for awhile. Quite peaceful! Then it was back into times square for dinner. After dinner I decided to ride back to South St. Seaport. Called a friend of mine who lives down in NYC and since she wasn't far from where I was I met up with her. We then headed back to her place so she could grab her bike and then we rode into central park. We found a nice place to sit and relax, and ended up having one of the best conversations I have ever had with anyone. Never the person I'd expect to have this conversation with either. But I had been praying earlier that I'd be able to talk to someone about this stuff before I started to suppress it as I often do. I needed to get this crap off my chest and I did. I felt great afterwards!!! We then headed back to her place since she was getting hungry, she hadn't eaten anything since he lunch break at 11:00am. So while she was eating we talked some more and caught up on everything that has gone on since the last time we had seen each other, some years before. I happened to go out for a cigarette and noticed that it was getting kinda dark out so I had to cut our conversation short. I then rode the 20 blocks back to Grand Central to catch my train back. I actually made it just in time for a train.
Having left when I did, and her final words to me, I had a lot to think about on the ride home. I was looking forward to that.
Now I'm home and am going to bed because I'm getting picked up at around 9:15am tomorrow to leave for the retreat. Goodnight everyone.
