nik & i woke up at 3:30am today in hopes to climb our first 14-footer. crazy drive on 70 thru clear creek canyon in the pitch dark. its odd going up, down, and around without seeing the scenery around you. i just wanted to turn on a big giant lightbulb. with our headlights we caught 3 elk (one dead), a parking lot of sleeping truckers, and 4-5 deer. we found out 3/4 of the way to the trailhead, in Georgetown, that Guanella Pass was closed due to a severe rock slide in JULY. i used to laugh at those "Falling Rock" signs... out here they mean business!

i have to work at 12 and even though it was only 5am, unfortunately we time is running short to do anything else that big, so we start to head back to denver. then mt. evans came to mind... auto road to the top! we hit the road in slight twilight. 7mi up, only half way, we find this road to be closed too! not sure why, but fortunately we reached a pretty sweet scenic vista. summit lake: its dead calm and grey. were minutes away from sunrise. the sun warms up the denver skyline in the distance. we took our time down to see how the sunlight would unveil the rest of the mountain. hues of purple warm the rock, orange shines through the grass, and brilliant lime green pop from the aspens in the mostly evergreen forest. satisfied, i slipped into a nice nap and awoke in idaho springs.

i've never lived in a small town. idaho springs is a smalll town. idaho springs is an adorable town. idaho springs may be a place to live someday. nik thinks i'd get bored, but how will i know without ever trying it out? he goes on to say that the only thing he's heard of idaho springs is that once you get in, you never get out. that's almost a selling point for me! i've already started to yearn for a new setting because denver is a city, like boston. it's great that my woods commute has dropped for 2.5h to 1, but how amazing would 15-30min be? and this seems like it could be a cool town. we ate at a great deli/yoga studio and walked by boutiques, bars, restaurants, and the local regional newspaper. there's a church that has a great music calendar and huge, and huge mountains- right there. i wanna try it. if i need the city, its 30 beautiful miles away.
