Here are all the things I need to accomplish in preliminary editing work this week, presented in old-school outline form!
1. Read rough draft of CtW as a reader.
a) Make notes afterwards of general impressions
2. Make an outline of the existing plot, scene-by-scene.
3. Rearrange outline according to the following:
a) Figure out what I want to cut
b) Figure out what I want to move
c) Figure out if any scenes need to be split up
d) Figure out what scenes need to be added in and mark as “to be written”
4. Put scenes in order according to new outline.
5. Read rough draft of CtW as an editor.
a) Make notes of timeline changes and where scenes will need to be reworked to reflect those changes
b) Look at pacing
c) Look at plot
d) Make note of time (switching seasons, day lengths, etc)
e) Adjust scenes as necessary to address pacing and plot issues that are still unresolved
6. Determine chapter lengths, beginnings, and endings.
a) Sort scenes into appropriate chapters
b) Rewrite outline to reflect chapter and scene changes
7. Print copy of draft
a) Divvy into chapters and attach chapter/scene checklists to each
8. If I survive, reward self with chocolate.

editing angsts my soul,
