My mother's outdated vocabulary words...

Jan 25, 2010 12:07

They used to drive me crazy when I was a kid. My mother was born in 1932 in nazi Germany, before world war II, so when I was growing up she used to use words that drove me crazy. My father was considerably younger than her so I don't remember him saying these words as much but he did call breakfast "brefcast" and Saturday "saraday". I told him ( Read more... )

my father's mother says all those things too. XD My mother's mother said Fiddlesticks, stoop instead of steps, and lavatory instead of bathroom. I thought it was all very neat tho. X3

the only one that drove me crazy was my father's mother would call her skinny upright vacuum "the electric broom." i expected to see a broom with a motor on it. i was disappointed when it was simply a vacuum.

it seems to help and get things remembered
and rebuild the connections that are lost
sitting is just too passive.

those are minnesota words
currently in use everyday

My mom worked hard on anatomy class
it was a all consuming thing.
but the names are part of a network- a pattern
once you see the over view it will be easier,
it will it will
she does remember it helps as she's an OT

the study of anatomy will help you make realer figures and paintings

maybe you'll be more than a nurse?
those next classes will be fun
and knowing your anatomy will make it easier

hugs keep up the great work!

You would probably hate how I talk as I use some very archaic words and phrases, often speaking quite formally too. Some of the words you mentioned your mother using I use too, lol.

Old school English heritage on one side of my blood line would do that I guess and also the amount of reading I do too probably would have helped.

oh and I am still waiting for the 'men in white coats' or the 'men with the white coats'.

I added you on DA. I am Lorisaard on there.

the archaic troll.

My mother still uses "davenport." It doesn't bother me but I know some people don't even know what the heck it means.
