Purple orchids and stuff...
So lately I have been collecting a few orchids and I really wanted to have a red orchid so I found one on ebay because I never see red ones at the local stores. Here was the auction where I won one of the orchids which I was expecting to be a red or a dark pink:

I paid more than I usually would for an orchid because I really wanted a red one. Well, when I finally received the orchid I opened up the box to find a dark purple/violet orchid, not red, it looked very similar to the one I had recently bought . There was a little dark red in the middle but that was all the red I could see. I was disappointed but it still is a beautiful orchid so I gave them positive feedback but did mention that the orchid was purple, not red. Here is what I wrote:
Beautiful orchid but was disappointed that it was purple, not red.
I debated with myself on whether I should leave the feedback or not. They are an experienced orchid breeder and grower but they misrepresented the color of the actual orchid. I thought about not leaving feedback at all because I hate to leave bad things but there was another feedback that mentioned something about an orchid not being as red as described. People should know that if they are looking for a red phal orchid then they will probably not end up with the exact color the screen appears to display. I don't know if it was their camera, they used a flash, or the lighting. Whatever the problem, I had to study the orchid and compare it to make sure it was even the same orchid.
Well, the seller sent me a message basically making fun of me for being a novice orchid person and not knowing what the heck I was talking about which I thought was a bit rude. It made me regret the feedback and wish I could take it back because I am an idiot I guess. Here is the message they sent:
Hello..Just so you understand there is no such color in the orchid world as purple they do not use the word purple at all does not exist.There are RED,PINK,YELLOW,WHITE,SUNSET..THAT IS IT THIS ORCHID IS AWARDED AS RED.I have received many emails today about you saying purple,and they find it to be funny, orchid people don't use that word ever. just a heads up on lingo you never use in the orchid world.I did not make this rule i have no idea who did but i learned early on never use the word purple when referring to a orchid color RED OR PINK no purple.You should get a book on orchids and read up a little..FYI it will help you..Thank you
I know, maybe I should have contacted them but they are not the greatest communicator. I asked them about a heat pack before they ship and they never got back to me. Oh well, I guess I will pass on buying any more of their orchids, hopefully they won't leave me bad feedback because I will complain to ebay if they do. I am not the one who misrepresented their product. I did a search in google for purple orchids and there are plenty of people that call purple orchids what they are, purple orchids. I guess they are idiots too. I will post a pic of one of my other orchids that looked exactly as described when I received it, a pinocchio phal orchid. I will take a pic of the other orchid in the light tomorrow so you can see that I am not blind, it is purple, not red.
