*rimshot*
Hello lovely people! Tis I, Bella, with a new character! Because apparently four of them on the island wasn't enough.
Also because Jenkins.
Jenkins hails from the tv show The Librarians, which is a cracky, lighthearted romp through a world where a giant library exists that collects dangerous magical artifacts from all over the world and just kind of . . . hoards them. For the protection of the human race, of course. If it didn't, there'd be way more incidents like the one with the first time traveler, who may or may not have always been a velociraptor in an early 20th century suit. I mean, it's time travel, so really, who knows?
Anyway, you should all try to watch the show, at least the episodes that don't have Noah Wiley in them. It's delightful.
To make a potentially long story short without too much by way of spoilers, Jenkins is the Library's Caretaker, an ancient and immortal being who hangs out in a lab and runs experiments on the magical artifacts and snarks at the Librarians while providing them exposition on the madcap of the week. After the events of the third season finale, though, he's decided for our purposes that the Library might be a bit too madcap for his tastes, and really, there's a reason he moved out to Portland with the Annex once upon a time in the first place and maybe it's time to go find his own space again so he doesn't have to be living with quite so many irritating geniuses underfoot.
Yeah, he's planned this move real well.
Jenkins is an old cantankerous man. Like, real old. Like, he turns down the advances of one of his colleagues by pointing out "If I was a thousand years younger, I would still be too old for you". That kind of old. He's seen people come and go so many times that he's developed his own peculiar sort of morbid humor with which he approaches the majority of the world. So while he's rather fascinated with the trappings of the modern world, like soft drinks and vending machines,
He's not super into people.
People die. A lot. And from his perspective, really very quickly. For the most part, he's not too concerned with stopping that from happening, except in the most academic sense. He'll help figure out how to solve the latest wackiness to come to Fandom because it's a magical challenge, sure. But not so much to "help people". Once he lets someone under his prickly armor, you see, they are there to stay, and he'll have to care about them and even the woman he promised to love eternally finally decided after thousands of years that she was going to go ahead and die now and frankly he's had enough of all that.
So . . . don't be upset if he makes casual remarks about your character meeting their untimely doom. That's just how he rolls.
Jenkins won't be super open about the whole immortality thing, but he's also not going to lie about it if it happens to come up. He's going to be even less open about his Secret IdentityTM, which I won't go into here because the build up to that reveal in season one is kind of fun and you should all watch the show, but if that should somehow manage to come up, well. He won't lie about that, either.
Here in Fandom, he will be taking over management of the Magic Box. Mostly to experiment on the goods being sold there, but he'll even open it up from time to time and see about getting a few more employees. He's also sure to head out and about from time to time, to try out some of the wondrous modern conveniences, like blended iced coffee drinks and wifi hot spots, and to try and figure out just how a town built on an island that functions as an interdimensional nexus actually works. And if he occasionally, very rarely, finds himself having to duel someone or something?
There's a reason why he carries a short sword in the jacket of his three piece suit.
OH YES AND. The Library has a "back door" which can hook up to any door in the world (give or take some mcguffiny magical mishap. So, you know, he may on rare occasions wander out of your storage closet without (IC) warning. (OOC warning will always occur. Storage closets will not be modded without permission.)
Yeah, that's mostly all an excuse to plug in a few gifs. Still, questions and comments are always welcome!
