Today, because of a headache/tiredness that still sort of lingers, I did not begin my return to Chicago as planned. Instead, I slept most of a gorgeous day away, then hung out with my niece, Morgan. She's three, and not talking much (clearly--she babbles, and some words are clear, but back and forth communication is difficult) but she is one of the sweetest, most affectionate kids I know. Last week, I watched her go up to this girl her age and give her a huge hug--that's apparently her way of making friends.
Today, we danced to Joni Mitchell, which Morgan got a huge kick out of, and then I took her to the park in my bike trailer--clearly, there are advantages to having a kid-toting kind of trailer, though I still want to try to get a more aerodynamic, touring trailer--where she played and played and played. She kept coming back to where I was sitting to drink her "juice," completely out of breath, but not stopping longer than strictly necessary. When do we lose the ability to entertain ourselves by simply running around until we're exhausted? It's still gorgeous outside. I'm in a strange mood. Maybe I'll go outside and read.
