This is friends only

For anyone who stumbles across this, I made this journal to be completely private. It was a response to my much more public blog, www.nostempore.net.

There is a contradiction inherent to having a blog or an online journal. A blog is meant to be a place to share your innermost thoughts and feelings, and yet, people you are close to will read it, and them reading your innermost thoughts and feelings will have effects on them. And so, you must be sensitive to their feelings (assuming you have half a heart), and therefore won't actually be able to say all the things you want to say. This is the Blogger's Paradox.

I want very badly to be a writer in almost every sense imaginable. It adds meaning and substance to my life. I am happiest when I am taking my feelings and translating them into prose, whether that be completely autobiographical, creative non-fiction, or just plain making up stories to entertain people. Wanting to be a writer is like wanting to be in the NBA. Even with talent and dedication, there are factors beyond your control that determine whether or not you make it.

But as John Wooden once said, "Never let what you can't do interfere with what you can."

And so I write...
