See, what's interesting to me about the Genii is that they're kind of a mirror to the way the Earth Stargate program *used* to be. Jack's team, in the first couple of seasons, was just *desperate* for alien technology-- found, begged, borrowed and sometimes stolen-- because of the imminent threat of the Gou'ald. The way Kolya snarks at Elizabeth for being arrogant and thinking only *her* people could possibly be advanced enough to run the city is (to me) nearly exactly the attitude Jack O'Neill used to have with that Tollan high council lady who was such a hardass and wouldn't share weaponry with the oh-so-primitive Earthlings. To me the difference is, basically, that on Earth there were *elements* of the population that were dumb and desperate enough to go aroung stealing alien technology in what you could call terrorist raids, but the Genii's entire military and government, their entire *culture* is like that. (But then again, who knows, maybe if more people on Earth had known about the imminent Gou'ald threat, or if the Gou'ald had been raiding Earth for generations, we'd be the same way.)
