08. About German Reunification

Oct 19, 2010 01:24

I didn’t get to write this on the actual German Reunification Day (October 3) so I’ll do it now.

No, because I think it's ridiculous how people think it's okay to ruin the entire world over ideologies. I mean, if you think about it, the modern conflict in Iraq/Afghanistan is partly based on the fact that the USA and the Soviet Union were playing "Let's try to make these countries capitalist/communist!" in the Middle East during the Cold War :/

I would rather prefer that the Cold War never happened at all. Jeezus Christ, it sounds simple but it led to so many complex problems. Oh yeah, and AP classes too. Gotta love AP United States History XD

I believe in einigkeit und recht und freiheit so I'm very happy to celebrate the German Unification Day and the fall of such a powerful dividing factor of the world. Margaret Thatcher and her "Huns" comment can go *bleep* because it's not about global politics or anything, it's about reuniting families and healing a country that was divided for so long because one insane Austrian guy wanted to take over the world :/

I think the fall of the Berlin Wall is about humanity. And how we are not meant to be divided. We are all humans, sans "artificial distinctions", as Victor Hugo puts it. I hope it will be that way someday. I channel Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in saying this: "I have a dream..."8.
