Snow in London

Jan 27, 2007 20:17

I woke up to snow in London last Wednesday.
It was a beautiful walk to the station with snow capped churches, houses and trees lining both sides of the street.
The downside was the paranoia of slipping and falling flat on my face.
As usual, London's transport system is never ready for any snow, hail, gale or heavy downpour.
The train station was jam packed with commuters trying to get to work.
I took a moment to enjoy the view of the powdered white snow on the rails.
Some heated exchanges that were heard between passengers on a cold day.

Scenario 1: Passenger A accidentally steps on Passenger B's foot on an overcrowded train
A: Oops... sorry I stepped on your foot!
B: *obvious displeased grunting and mumbling under breath*
A: Stop being such a miserable cow!
B: Just WHO are you calling a COW?!

Scenario 2: Passenger C tries to get onto a crowded train which Passenger D is on
C: Hey. Can you move down the train so I can get on.
D: No.
C: Move it! There's space down the carriage!
D: No, there isn't.
C: Move! What's wrong with you! Move!
D: No.
Train pulls away from station with Passenger D still on the train and Passenger C on the platform

Plans for the upcoming trip to Prague, Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest are finally taking shape.
I booked the airtickets last week and got my leave approved. Yes, in that order.
I paid for the tickets before sending in my leave application. Not the most intelligent thing to do.
Now the ball is in YJ's court. How's the accommodation research coming along dearie?
It was great to chat with you on the phone the other day!
I admit that I have been rather slack in doing any further research after booking the tickets.
I will try to get down to finding out more about travelling between the cities.
Thinking about it, I should probably do the research before you book any accommodations.
Anyway, glad that we are moving ahead!

A few mates from work and I were thinking of heading down to Monte Carlo this year for the F1 Grand Prix. An Italian colleague of mine lives less than an hour from the circuit and can probably put us up at his place. The problem I realized after going on to the Formula One website is that the race is on 27 May which is a month before our submission for schematics!! What a pity. Perhaps I can try to go the British GP in Silverstone instead.

Some little snippets of other happenings.
Last week, I got my mum to send my iPod over and I am glad to say that it has safely reached the shores of the UK. Now I just need to put some music on.

I cut and highlight my hair today. It was rather pricey and I am not absolutely happy with the results.
I suppose it was my fault for not telling the stylist that I wanted another couple of inches off my hair.
I thought the length looked right at the salon, but after coming home, I decided that it could be shorter.
A little disappointed at the moment.

I am trying to get tickets for the opening of the new Wembley Stadium designed by Norman Foster & HOK Sports. The stadium will possibly host the FA Cup finals in mid-May this year. I wonder if there are still tickets available. Think I should be back from my holiday then.
The official opening of the stadium is on the 3rd of March this year. They are giving local residents a chance to view the stadium first hand and luck has it that I am part of the London borough of Brent which is where the stadium resides. The tickets are free, but you have to write in to get them. I am going to send in my details and fingers crossed that I get the tickets.

Seem to be an entry full of random ramblings.
Should get on to fiddling with my iPod.

london, ramblings
