Long Weekend@Echuca-Moama

Serious Facts:

The Murray River forms the border between the township of Echuca and Moama. Alhtough they are both under the same municipality, Echuca lies in the state of Victoria and Moama in the state of New South Wales. Many Victorians travel to this border that is approximately 2.5-3 hrs drive from Melbourne city for a game of paintball in Moama as it is apparently not legalized in the state of Victoria. Other than paintball, there are plenty of outdoor activities like kayaking/canoeing in the Murray river, horseriding, golfing, go-karting, camping, hikes, biking, boating etc. It is quite an ideal spot for a short getaway over the weekend.

Not-so-serious Facts:
I personally went for kayaking in the Murray river and horseriding. The black and white horse in the centre, Bubba was the one that I rode on during the hour long horseriding session. It was a highly anticipated event for me as it was my first go at riding a horse. (Additional information: It was a scorching 36 deg and Bubba did not share my sentiments on the excitment of going for a ride) Anyway, it was a rather good ride except that in the process I got my foot sort of squished in between the firm muscled body of Bubba and a hard, solid timber fence. *OUCH* The swelling kept me out of action for nearly a week and instead of going to gym, I was keeping my body working real hard digesting all the junk food I was binging on. Bad Bubba! Okie, I have to admit that I was my fault for not pulling Bubba away from the fence. I should not be blaming the poor horse that had to be forced out of the shade to entertain an ignorant city girl.

Anyway, the kayaking in the river was less threatening other than the huge cruise boats and speedy powerboats that threaten to throw me overboard with the waves they generate. On retrospect, I think I must have looked really pathetic in the river bobbling away on a bright yellow kayak frantically trying on one hand to steer away from menacing machines that threaten to run over you, and on the other hand still trying to maintain that cool composure under the all the heat(in more ways than one).

I guess it was still a good weekend away from the city. I particularly enjoyed having my breakfast of coffee and pie at a bakery that had a deck overlooking the murray river. However, being a true city girl at heart, I was still happy to be here only as a visitor and returning to the bright lights and hard concrete of city life.
