I was having a good day. I laid down to take a nap. I woke up from my nap to Job #2's ringtone, "My Give-A-Damn's Busted".
Manager: "I'm just calling to tell you we're taking you off the schedule."
Me: "...why?"
Her: "You can't keep being on call."
Me: "But...you put me on call, I didn't ask to be on call."
Her: "Well, you're starting your internship soon and you have another job already, so you couldn't work much longer anyway."
Me: "..."
Her: "Corporate will be calling to ask us why you're still on our payroll if you're not actually working, so we're just taking you off. Saturday will be your last on call day on the schedule."
Me: "Okay, well, I hope that no one calls off Saturday, because if they do, I sure won't be there."

...
So I'm fired, because I'm starting an internship and I have another job. How dare I.
As Dan pointed out, I wanted to quit anyway, but that's the thing...I wanted to quit. I did not want to be fired because the same rules don't apply to everyone there. Vicky has gone MONTHS without working because of school and they would just have her work on her breaks. She's currently on an internship, and they schedule her once a month to keep her active. Then, if she finishes her internship and doesn't find a job, she'll already have this one.
I could have pointed this out, I suppose, but I know from years of dealing with these people that it would be a waste of time. The worst part is, I don't think I can file for unemployment because I'm not unemployed. I've lost a job that was a vital source of income for me, but I still have another job.
But today is St. Patrick's day, and I'm going out for green beer. And when I walk into the bar, I'm going to announce that I was fired today. I bet I don't pay for any of my drinks.
And when I visit Laura this weekend, there won't be any special time I have to be back on Saturday, because I will NOT be calling work to ask if they need me.
So every cloud does have a silver lining. It just irritates me that I was fired for no good reason at all, that management will bend over backwards for some people and FIRE others for the same things.
Screw those guys.
Regardless of the circumstances, it's time to celebrate the fact that I don't have to work there anymore.
