Gender: Female
Appearance:
* Height: 5'2" (157 cm)
* Weight: 89lbs (40.4 kg)
* Hair: Black
* Eyes: Maroon

Personality:
Slumber after slumber, Saya seems to change in personality. Those who knew her during prior awakened periods remark on this through the course of the series. Aside from her early awakening in Vietnam and the rage it caused in her, most other personality changes within Saya seem to be 'masks'. She does her best to be strong for those around her and tries to hide her own hurt, sorrow and pain as best as she can.

Saya is, as her sister Diva so eloquently put it, "honest and straightforward". At heart, Saya is a very kind person, thanks in part to the tender care Joel used in raising her. Though he doesn't appear to have been an overly-affectionate man, he would comfort her when she cried and give her advice when she was confused. It was through Joel that Saya forged much of her cheerful, friendly personality.
With Haji, Saya learned not only to throw off her spoiled behavior but to come to truly care for another person. She deeply grieved when she thought she had lost him to his fall those many years ago. She learned what it was to love and almost lose the one you loved, a lesson she never forgot.
With her adopted family -- her brothers Kai and Riku, as well as her adoptive father George -- Saya learned how to smile once again. With this new family, Saya even learned how to smile brighter and the true depth of love that someone could hold for their family and close loved ones. No matter how many years pass by, Saya will always think of those three and her year with them with fondness.

This kindness becomes buried as the series progresses however. The Saya we know by the end is not the same happy, typical highschool girl we met in the first episodes. She is no longer naive and full of clumsy smiles. She has come to accept her lineage and the necessity of her fighting, as well as regaining her fighting prowess and power. She has become the Saya of years before, in some ways, accepting the inevitable death she hopes to have once she kills Diva.
This leads to Saya hardening herself to the point of brushing off 'unnecessary' things and pushing aside those who would try to help her. Where she was once talkative, she becomes quiet and says only what needs to be said. Boisterous smiles give way to cooler, smaller smiles. Her fight against Diva drives her night and day.
"This is my fight. I don't want to feel regret and sadness for others anymore."
Saya puts up her mask and her walls in order to spare others, showing once again the depth of caring she can have for those around her. Despite pushing them away, she still burns with the passion to protect those she cares for, no matter what the cost to herself.

Saya feels a deep guilt and responsibility, particularly when it comes to all of those who have been hurt, that seems to run very deep. From Haji's own turn into a Chevalier to the unfortunate chain of events that led to the release of Diva and the subsequent Chiropteran problems, she blames herself for all of them.
It is in this way that Saya really takes too much onto herself. Combined with her own deeds in Vietnam and the hurt that has sprung from her very blood, it became enough to make Saya view death as the only way to stop everything for good.

Abilities:
While Saya may look human, she's far from it. To outsiders, many of Saya's abilities and quirks of her nature mimic classic signs of vampirism.

Saya is a Chiropteran. The lowest of this species appear to be hematophagous bat-like creatures who feed on human blood and have extraordinary speed, strength and healing abilities, along with the ability to transform parts of their body and to fly.
Of these Chiropterans, the highest level are the Queens, also known as originals. Within any generation of Chiropterans, there are only two Queens, female twins of the last Queen. One is born with red eyes and the other with blue. This generations twins are Saya herself and her sister Diva.

Queens have several advantages and disadvantages.
+ They are able to create Chiropterans from their blood, either through giving some of their blood to an individual or through drugs created from their blood being introduced medically and through human experimentation. The highest of these are Chevaliers, who serve as personal guards for the Queen through their own innate urges to protect her.
+ They can control aspects of their own looks and bodies. Diva freely takes on the form of Riku, Saya's adopted brother who she killed, for quite some time.
+ Queen's can also, like all Chiropterans, move quickly and heal quickly too, as well as display great strength.
+ One Queen's blood is toxic to her sister Queen, as well as that Queen's Chiropterans and Chevaliers. Injecting a Chiropteran with the blood of his creator's sister Queen will lead them to 'crystalize'. Chevaliers and the sister Queen herself will take longer to crystalize.

- A Queen's range and strength of abilities are directly related to how often she feeds. Diva, who feeds without remorse and quite regularly, has full access to her powers, such as shapeshifting. Saya, who typically only takes blood packs and only feeds on her chevalier Haji as a last resort, has very limited powers. She heals slower and doesn't hit with the same strength or speed as Diva.
- After being awake for two years or more, Queens will fall into a deep sleep. This sleep typically lasts thirty years, during which time the Queen will form a cocoon around her body.
- Queens who become pregnant will lose the potent abilities of their blood. They will no longer be able to hurt their sister Queen, her Chiropterans or her Chevaliers.
- Queens can only become pregnant by mating with a Chevalier created by their sister Queen.
