All Inconsequential

What ties me to this ground

is inconsequential.

The legs that drag,

the dirty feet,

the gnawing pain

of hunger and loss,

this robe that sweeps about my knees -

an indignity to my age

and experience.

All

inconsequential

You pass me by

afraid to look,

wanting to stare,

wary of engaging

a mortal who has fallen

from esteem.

Half man,

half animal,

scrounging in the gutter

of your heart

and mind,

this is your greatest fear.

I, the man that haunts your

deepest dreams

of failure

and inconsequence.

All

inconsequential

What do you hold within your heart?

Why is there the burn of fear?

Look deep, look down

into my eyes -

the joy that I behold

despite these rags

and languid limbs,

a beggar living off another's whims -

All

inconsequential

poetry
