This is not an offer to do therapy online, as I am not yet
independently licensed. However, I have a doctorate in clinical
psychology, four years' experience working with clients, and, probably
of most interest to you, a good deal of knowledge about how different
types of therapists might interact with clients who are in various
ways counterculture (queer, poly, BDSM, neo-pagan, generally geekery,
etc.)
Therefore, what I'm offering is to spend some time talking to you about:
1) Types of therapist and therapy that might be most useful for you,
in terms of theoretical orientations, (psychodynamic? CBT?
feminist?), field (psychiatrist? Social worker? Counselor?), mode of
therapy (Individual? Group? Couples?), etc.
2) how to find a therapist who will be supportive and well-informed
about what you're actually looking to change, as opposed to what's a
normal part of your life.
3) how to talk to such a therapist to make it clear what you want to work on
Unfortunately, I am not well-informed about insurances, resources, and
the most popular theoretical orientations outside of the United
States, so for international bidders, while I could still give advice
on how to talk to a therapist, I might be less useful in helping you
find one.
