OK. So this is going to sound both crazy AND stupid, so please bear with me. In a nutshell, would you consider doing the whole journal thing for a different, virtually unknown fandom? And by "fandom," I am stretching it a bit because I am talking about my own comic book series, The Adventures of Monkey, which - if it ever had fans - has been out of print for about ten years now anyway. I can describe more if you think you might be up to the challenge. If you'd like to do some research of your own, check out my WOMP-Site through my LiveJournal. I look forward to hearing from you whenever you have a moment. Thank you so much! - John

\o/ It's five am and I really should be asleep if I want to get up at 630, but since my world seems a bit mad right now anyway -- if you pass me some material that I can reference and a bit of background as to what you want to get out of me, I'd be glad to take a poke and see!

Seriously? As long as there's enough stuff around that I won't spend half of the 100 entries going "Uh...", I should be fine?

Sleep, sleep! I can wait! In brief, I've got the published comics, character descriptions, page-upon-page of self-indulgient bloggings, and other references. I'll write again later with more...so, now, SLEEP! Thanks!

So...here's what I've been thinking. I have read some of your most recent stuff, and I think you are a truly amazing writer. I really think that you have a great future ahead of you. While I instinctively - and greedily - want to take advantage of your auction while you are still relatively unknown, I've decided that it would be patently unfair to you. You seem to be just starting out, more or less, so a year spent on my crappy little comics world would be an unproductive chore, the end result of which would be of virtual worthlessness for portfolio or sample purposes (who would know if you did a good job besides me?). The other bidders seem to be looking for something more "mainstream," if you can call it that. Whatever you do for them would probably also help advance your career, both as exercise and as example. THEREFOR, stop sweating. I'm not gonna bid...but, either as another Live Long and Marry auction item, or as just good old fashioned commissioned work, I would still very much like to hire you to write a story based ( ... )

Wow. Oh man. That's way more credit than I deserve - honestly speaking, I come from a country where any potential future that precludes me being a writer practically doesn't exist. I haven't had much time to surf around your site and stuff, but I think you have a hell of a lot more courage than I (and a lot other writers) do in that you've gone out and made a comic and that you're still doing stuff for that genre. :D

I really don't think that anything I'll end up doing for this (or any other writing thing!) will be a waste of time - and I'm still relatively young in fandom, which is a really good thing sometimes because, well, uh, I am easily bored and nobody really reads me. *laughs* So if you want me to write anything for you - whether for free or through another auction or whatever - I'd be more than glad to do so: hell, I've always wanted to write some stuff outside of Fandom-fandom, and if you want to go somewhere with your comics world I'll be more than glad to help you! *flail*

Now it's my turn to flail! My friend (and I do now think of you as my new friend), your offer is as generous and beautiful as is your writing, and your compliments toward ME are wholly undeserved, but greatly appreciated. Thank you! And I'm going to hold you to some of what you said, too. My comics world is based on the idea of diversity - of all sorts - being important. The hero characters tend to lean toward it, and the villain characters tend to shun it. My whole concept, twenty or so years ago, was that the World of Monkey (as I call it) could be used to tell virtually any kind or style of story (except, I suppose, stuff past an NC-17 rating). While it seems to center on a toy monkey come to life as a superhero, I've built in many layers of story possibility. Toward that end, I have often asked guest writers and artists to delve into a dark or out-of-focus area of my little universe, with little demand other than that the result be somehow cohesive to the whole. I've acquired beautiful fantasy stories, quirky humor, ( ... )

:D Feel free to email me, really (*points up at the email address there*). I've got a few hours off this weekend in which to think and write a bit, and it'd be interesting to work completely off the board from my usual stuff! \o/ And considering that my "usual stuff" has just created small, 5000 word monsters, I won't say that I'm not a bit relieved...
