Blimey..I just nearly choked on my lunchtime Jaffa Cake. Apparently the Government,bless their little cotton socks, now wish to introduce a "National Britain Day" to reinforce our community spirit and sense of belonging to this green and pleasant land!!!! Hang on a minute,I thought that the last two decades were an exercise in deconstructing ANY notion of Britishness...to the point that we are all embarrassed to admit to it. The idea that I am British has long since been brainwashed out of me,to the extent that a single day of flag waving can never restore .......it's all too late dear Government I'm afraid.....go and kneejerk and U turn somewhere else....
I wonder which emblem/flag they will choose for this impending farsical "celebration".........a combo of the St.George cross mixed with a few leeks and thistles???? The Union Jack....sorry Union Flag??? Maybe a little cerise number to mirror the now imfamous Olympic logo!........... right I'm off to have a cream tea, a glass of Pimms before watching a cricket match on the village green.....Tally Ho!
