Worms!

Today, I cut a bunch of spinach from our garden and set it on the counter before I washed it. I then washed it very carefully, leaf by leaf (if I don't, I sometimes find bugs or clods of dirt in my food!) and cooked it. Then I went back to the counter and found a poor worm crawling on it! It had been brought in with the spinach. I carefully moved it back outside to the dirt and its home.

This is more incredible than you might think! When goodbush and I were digging our garden initially, there were no worms to be found anywhere. There were tons of pillbugs that eat rotting things, but not lots of beneficial worms and other insects. This means that worms have come to populate our garden and make our soil happy and healthy!!!

In other news, I want to make a slime monster to process our graywater and also plant cover crops in the areas of our yard that have really poor soil.

goodbush and I sometimes consider moving to a place with cheaper rent, but we can't fathom giving up our garden.
