Christmas Explosion!

So there's a neighborhood near where I now live where everyone has to decorate for Christmas. They sign a contract when they move in. We decided to go for a walk through it, and it was quite fun.

But I'm left mulling over all sorts of mixed symbolism. What does it mean to have two Santa Claus' in one yard, but only one Mrs. Claus? Does that mean she's into twins? Brothers? Or simply bigamy?

I never knew that the baby Jesus was born next to a Christmas tree in a manager with polar bears, penguins, and Charlie Brown looking on.

One big yard had a painted picture of Santa kneeling by the baby Jesus. It read more like a twisted porn than a Christmas tale, with the baby Jesus surrounded with an explosion of orgasmic light. Is it just a coincidence that this house is where the American flags began to show up?

In a similar, though differently perplexing yard, there was a manger scene set up with baby Jesus, wise men, and angels. Strangely, Mary and Joseph were nowhere to be seen, but it was again Santa was kneeling by Jesus. Perhaps the baby Jesus sprang forth out of Santa's head like Athena from Zeus.

Besides all of this strangeness, there were some delightful gems. Next to a house with a huge manager with a sign above it that says "BELIEVE!" is a house with fairies hanging from the trees, a house with fairies in it, and a sign that says "Believe!"

Santa flies planes, hang glides, and surfs. Some penguins were skateboarding down a half pipe. A house that I suspect was home to a Jewish family was decked out in only blue and white lights.

All in all, a good time!
