christmas was in the air and on the calendar, but being used to 20 degrees and being in 80 degrees made me realize i wasn't 12 or 22 anymore. housekeeping came knocking on what was one of the few tenants in the building as i was changed into my old trunks and flipped the dead bolt while peering my left eye through the peephole of room 316. i only remember the number because of the Van Halen song.

speaking of which, i just put in Balance. im about 95% sure this album came out on new years day '95. i remember going out to eat that night with my mom and her 3rd husband, some fancy restaurant in canada, and remembering i'd rather be in my room listening to this rather than enduring some conversation my pot-ridden brain has surely forgotten or blocked out.

the hotel pool was cold and lonely. i saw one other family in the holiday inn that day, each of us possiibly wondering why the other wasn't with family on such a celebrated day. i was surprised to see the hotel diner open, ordering myself a very non-traditional meal, which im fairly certain was a hamburger. some details are lost in the arguing of that week, while others remain as concrete as my old backyard. ill never forget how empty that hotel was for those 3-4 days, although having cable service was nice.

the end of the trip consisted of time on the nude beach and knowing i'd never go back to miami again. i came across my pics of the waves today and got to thinking, thats all.
