Is it bedtime yet?

Today was too damned long. Hubby had asked me to do a child passenger safety presentation for his soldiers today. I spent all day yesterday working on the slides. Last night, I e-mailed the presentation to Hubby, so he could put it on the laptop at work. I did not print my notes, because I figured I'd want to make a few last minute changes. This morning, the alarm went off at 7 am. N- was awake but dozey, so I cuddled with her for 10 minutes hoping she'd go back to sleep. At 7:10, the power went out. That meant no heat, no computer, and no way to contact my husband (who had already left for work) or my parents (who were coming over to watch the kids while I did my thing).

I woke everyone up, fed them breakfast and got them dressed. When my parents got here, we loaded up the car, and we all went to the base. The presentation was only an hour, and it seemed silly for them to drop me off, drive 20 min home, then have to turn around and come back to pick me up again. So, they hung out in an empty conference room.

My presentation went pretty well. I took up my full hour, and I didn't cover nearly all the material I could have. Most of what I wanted to say was on the slides; there was just one section which I would have liked to have had. Still, Hubby said a couple of people said I done good, so that was nice, especially since not all the soldiers even have kids.

After that, we went back home where there was still no power, so we went to my parents' house for lunch. I helped my dad clear the driveway. I jabbed my toe with a snow shovel. It still hurts. :-P We do work fairly well together, though. Then, it was back inside, where I made pizza for lunch. Then I made banana bread. Then the kids and I played their new game, Ticket to Ride. Then I showed my mom how to use her new iPod. *sniff* I was hoping she'd just give it to me, since she didn't know anything about it. I guess someone else she knows has been using her iPod lately, and now my mom is actually motivated to try hers out.

I have no idea what time the power came back on, but everything's OK now. We had lots of ice followed by snow, which is GORGEOUS, but hell on trees. I don't think any of the trees in our yard had significant droppage, but the neighbors on both sides of us lost several limbs. I've had to clear branches out of the driveway every time I pull in or out since 7 pm last night.
