It's been awhile I suppose

Well, if Pam can post an update, I suppose I can to. Here's the run down on my life since I last updated my Livejournal:

I got a job at Western Illinois University as an Assistant Professor in the Communication Department. My students are often lazy and not particularly bright, but they are well meaning and seem to like me. I have a few good students who give me hope for the future. I told one of my classes about a program in New York in which a van drives around giving prostitutes STD tests. Then the prostitutes call a number a week later to find out. One of my students astutely observed that such a program would make an excellent reality television show.

I availed myself of the wonders of the internet and signed up for match.com last fall. Part of my profile read something like "Ladies, I have read your profiles and I can tell you that I have everything you want in that I am into neither infidelity nor "head games."" I met one person from match.com in real life and readers, I am going to marry her next summer. Neala is smart, funny, incomparably lovely, and very mentally stable. Everything I have been looking for. We are aiming to have a small wedding in mid June. We are contemplating a honeymoon in California such that we start in San Francisco for a few days and then drive down the coast to visit her grandmother in Orange County.

Next summer we are moving in together in a yet to be determined apartment in the quad cities, probably on the Iowa side. We plan on having a guest bedroom for visitors. It will mean a 90 minute commute to work, but most weeks I will only need to be on campus two days a week, so it's not so bad. I don't know how long I will stay at WIU, but I think I can comfortably say that while I might be tempted to move on to a larger university with a doctoral program, I would only move somewhere with a stronger program that I also happen to want to live (e.g. Chicago, Ithaca NY, San Francisco, Madison WI, Iowa City IA, maybe others.
